Capitol Hill Briefing Introduces
Bill to Strengthen and Restore SSI
A briefing to introduce the SSI Restoration Act (H.R. 1601) Wednesday drew about 60 Hill staff, policymakers, government officials and advocates from national organizations.
A distinguished list of speakers pointed out the problems with the current program, told a story of a senior who lost his benefits because he had a little too much in savings and detailed what the bill would do.
Rep. Raul Grijalva, who sponsored the legislation, said the bill would "begin the process of bringing this program into the 21st century."
