Celebrations &
Concerns

As you know, Evelyn Woodson has moved to New York to be closer to her daughter's family. She asked that her new address be shared: Wynwood Kenmore #224, 2971 Delaware Avenue, Kenmore, NY 14217.

We hold Mike Holloway in the light as he recovers from knee surgery.

We hold Barbara Allen in the light, with prayers for a retunr to good health.  Barbara asks for prayers for Russ Heasty as he struggles with a broken neck and attendant health problems, and for the siblings who are his caretakers.

We hold Wes MacAdam in our prayers. Wes's mother died peacefully last month.

November 1, 2012

Greetings!
cpc rose window

Today is All Saints Day, and with it comes the invitation to remember the saints of your own life. Who are the ones who have gone before and shown you the way? Who have been the wise elders for your life?

We give thanks and praise, and, during worship this weekend, we'll pause to remember the "great cloud of witnesses." We'll also sing one of my favorite hymns, "For All the Saints" -- a tip of the hat to Chuck Abbott for reminding me that we needed to sing that one this week!

Worship this weekend arrives as an interesting confluence: All Saints Day, the Sunday after a terrible storm, the Sunday before a national election. We'll hold all of that in our hearts, and ground our response in worship that centers around the common table to which we are invited.

Come and worship!

peace,
David

PS: Don't forget to "fall back" Saturday night. Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend! If you forget to set your clocks back an hour and show up early, put some coffee on for the rest of us!
Wii Kirk Is On!

The lights are on, and so is the party!

Join us on tomorrow, Nov. 2, for the next Wii Kirk evening of fun, fellowship and the best pizza in Arlington!

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and Mr. & Mrs. Pizza will be producing delicious food soon thereafter. The big TV will be hooked up and Wii games going. There will good food, good drink and good conversation.

This is one of the great ways that we do church at CPC, and it's a perfect time to invite a friend who might find more traditional expressions of church less welcoming.

Taking Liturgy to the Streets or to Busboys!

Next Wednesday evening at 7:00 we'll gather the next installment of the Busboys & Poets Liturgy Collective at Busboys in Shirlington. We'll try to score the big table just to the right of the entrance.

We'll be working on liturgy for Advent along with folks from several other Presbyterian congregations. This December we will be sharing liturgical resources with Arlington Presbyterian Church (Columbia Pike) and Church of the Covenant (Military Road), and we'll be working on that next week, as well.
Responding to Sandy

While the metro area was spared the brunt of Sandy this week, our neighbors up the coast were hit incredibly hard by the storm.

There are lots of ways to respond in support of the communities who have been so greatly damaged. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is coordinating response for Presbyterians in the aftermath. You can learn more about PDA's response here and about how you can contribute to it through their web site.
