We hold Mike Holloway in the light as he recovers from knee surgery.
Barbara Allen asks for prayers for Russ Heasty as he struggles with a broken neck and attendant health problems, and for the siblings who are his caretakers.
We hold Wes MacAdam in our prayers. Wes's mother died peacefully last month.

Karen Kimmel asks prayers for her brother, Richard, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
Sallye Broome asks prayers for Katie Ezell (niece of Sue Ezell) who has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma; for Mary Begley and her husband, Don. Don suffered a stroke last spring and his recovery has been quite slow.
We hold Barbara Allen in the light, with prayers for a return to good health.

Politics of Jesus
Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse |
October 18, 2012

Greetings! Tuesday evening many of you no doubt watched the second presidential debate as Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney once again made their cases to the American people. Personally, not being among the undecided, I find these exercises far less compelling than playoff baseball, even after the Nats left the scene. So rather than spend the week dwelling on contemporary American presidential politics I have continued pondering the politics of Jesus. As you heard in worship last Sunday, those politics are quite different from our usual politics, and we'll continue to explore them this Sunday. We'll read the Beatitudes from Luke's gospel ( 6:20-28) and Micah 4:4-6, and I'll share a meditation called The Politics of Jesus: Prophets, Poets, Peace. We'll share several beautiful pieces of liturgy, and we need some leaders for those. If you'd like to participate (including some candles and fires!), please let me know. Come and worship! peace, David |

Clarendon Grows!

Clarendon Grows Food!
The Plot Against Hunger at CPC has been a HUGE success this year. We're still gathering year-end information, but it looks like we had 13 people serve as Gardeners of the Week, putting in around 30 hours over 60 days and harvesting a grand total of (approximately) 125 pounds of fresh, local, healthy produce for AFAC! I call that a huge success. Now it's time to prepare the garden for winter. We need a few able bodies, a wheel barrow and some shovels for a few hours to take out the summer crops, and prepare the beds for winter. We also need to make a decision: should we try a winter crop (which we plant now, and should bear veggies to donate in the spring) or go with a cover crop to restore the nutrients in the soil. Personally, I vote for the hybrid approach: one bed with a cover crop (the one closer to the church, which had more demanding veggies this season - winter rye) and the other with a winter crop (garlic, onions, artichokes, peas, broccoli). If you can put in a few hours in the garden either this Sunday (10/21) or next weekend (10/27 or 10/28), please contact Gillian Burgess.

NextChurch!
Interested in what's next for church? Join David at the regional NextChurch gathering, Saturday, Oct. 27, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Church of the Pilgrims. What's in it for you? And for Clarendon? - You'll come away with some new ideas for ministry (ones that have been proven to work other places) and also time to reflect with colleagues on why they are working, the theological grounding for the ideas, and how they might be tailored for ministry in your own community.
- You will meet other leaders from your region who are interested in continuing to develop as leaders and become ongoing conversation partners.
- Ideas for joint ministry and mission opportunities might present themselves.
What is the cost? $20. That's it. And that includes lunch. You can register on-line. Just click here and follow the simple directions. Then please let David know that you're planning to attend.
