Community Safety Policies
|
Following are important policies that are in place for the comfort and safety of all community members. For more information please refer to the The Hartsbrook School Handbook, which can always be found on our website.
Dogs - Dogs, even small friendly dogs, are not allowed on campus. If they come for pick up or drop off they must be left in your vehicle.
Animal Enclosures/Barns - Please do not enter the animal barns or enclosures unless an agricultural arts employee invites you inside. Our farm animals are busy interacting with people all day and need to rest after school. If you are interested in week-end animal chores and more individual time with the animals, contact Nicki Robb.
Parking - We are aware that our parking lots are very full at dismissal but we must leave the entire width of the driveway open for emergency vehicle access and visibility when exiting.
- Please do not park along the entry driveway!
- If the first lot is full, please find additional spaces further in by the basketball court.
- We encourage car pooling! (Suggestions for on-line carpooling tools are welcome)
Thank you for your attention to these policies

Envisioning Hartsbrook's Future Together ~ Join Us!
Save the Date
| When: Wednesday, October 22, 7 - 9pm Where: The Great Room
All members of the Hartsbrook community are invited to a joint meeting of the Board of Directors, Faculty Conference, and Parent Council on Wednesday, October 22, 7 - 9pm, in the Great Room in Hartsbrook Hall. Tea and treats will be provided. The meeting will continue the work begun at the joint meeting held last March. At that meeting, we discussed three questions: - What brought you to Hartsbrook? - What keeps you at Hartsbrook? - How might we share the School's vision with our wider community? This exercise helped us gain a more precise understanding of what we value about Hartsbrook and of ways to share our appreciation of the School with the wider community. See the Meeting reports: - Summary Version - Detailed Version The upcoming October meeting will help us turn the many fruitful ideas we gathered into concrete actions to pursue during this school year! We hope that these efforts will contribute to the continuing growth and vibrancy of The Hartsbrook School and our surrounding communities. Please join us!

First Grade ~
The First Grade has been busy - on our own and with our wonderful Eighth Grade buddies!
We began a project to make our own rest pillows by washing and cleaning wool from the Hartsbrook sheep in preparation for carding.

Last week, on a perfectly gorgeous early fall day, we climbed up to Rattlesnake Knob with the Eighth Graders and a good number of parents. We didn't see any rattlesnakes, but we did see great views of our valley and had lots of fun. The First Graders showed themselves to be excellent hikers - as did the Eight Graders and parents!

Ancient History: The Birth of Civilization ~ 10th Grade Intensive
|
The Tenth Grade spent a week in New York City in support of our block work in Ancient History: The Birth of Civilization. Our studies have taken up the beginnings: the beginnings of intensive agriculture, specialized work, political and religious institutions, and the beginnings of cities.
One of the themes in our Tenth Grade curriculum is comparing and contrasting. New York City is a wonderful place to compare and contrast, a simple walk around Central Park brought us into contact with enduring examples of the ancient and the new! We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art, had lunch near an actual Egyptian Obelisk, and saw many examples of Egyptian, Greek and Roman architecture. We also walked along High Line Park, saw an Off Broadway Production and had a picnic on Herman Melville's grave. It was an exciting and very full week.

Hawks Eye View ~ Soccer!
| 9/26/14 - Girls Varsity Soccer Hartsbrook 2 / Buxton 0
Hartsbrook traveled to a neutral pitch on a beautiful autumn day to play the Buxton School this past Friday. After many campaigns to the goal, Hartsbrook still found itself at a 0-0 tie at the half. However, within minutes of the second half, Hartsbrook had two strong finishes. Our defensive line kept Buxton at bay for the remainder of the game to maintain our two goal lead.
9/30/14 Hartsbrook 5 / Four Rivers 4 After our opponent scored the first goal, Hartsbrook kicked up the intensity to take a quick 2-1 lead in the first half. Junior Hannah had two textbook goals, while sophomore Nora made many fearless saves in goal. The second half was a game of cat and mouse, but Hartsbrook kept their edge until the lat blow of the ref's whistle.
Maggie Elmore, Girls Varsity Soccer Coach
9/26/14 Boys Varsity Soccer Hartsbrook 3 / Buxton 1 Hartsbrook took on Buxton in Charlemont and came away with a win. It was a collective and convincing effort. A measured pass by Abel into the path of a charging Daniel put Hartsbrook on the board first. The team went ahead again mid-way through the second half when Dante converted on a penalty. Dante sealed the win in the final five minutes with a solo effort beating the keeper to the far post. The team created many chances on goal, and the defense held a high line throughout. Ben Purdon, Boys Varsity Soccer Coach

An exhilarating romp through Goethe's theatrical masterpiece about heaven, hell and a battle for the soul of a man searching for truth, satisfaction and a Goddess. Full of love, sex, murder, magic, myth, war, waves and a devil out of his depths, it is astonishingly pertinent to our time and our struggles to confront evil and to be truly human.
