Book Signing & Reading with Signe Eklund Schaefer

Monday, October 7, 2013 at 7:00 pm

The Hartsbrook School, Piening Hall
193 Bay Rd, Hadley, MA 01035

Life today poses many questions, both in our personal lives and in our participation in nature and the broader culture.
We often focus on the outer needs for social, political, technological, or environmental change. Can we really meet the challenges around us without also attending to our inner life and to our own evolving biography as it reflects and informs the outer world?

Admission is free, book will be available for purchase that evening. For more information please call 413-320-1723 or contact Kathleen Bowen: 413-320-1723 or

Mindful Parenting
Biography and Social Art Sessions with Kathleen Bowen

Monday, October 7, 2013 at 7:00 pm

The Hartsbrook School, Piening Hall, 193 Bay Road, Hadley, MA 01035

Family and work responsibilities, the distraction of everyday life and an abundance of 'expert' advice can make us feel overwhelmed and confused about our children's needs and our responsibilities as parents. How can we practice a healthy attentiveness to what is right for our child and develop greater confidence and follow-through in our ability to meet their evolving needs as we perceive them?

What kind of parent do I want to be? What gifts do I bring to parenting? What is my child asking of me? Come and join us as we explore these questions and more through artistic exercises, story, writing, and conversation.

November 5, 12, 26 and December 3 and 10 @ 8:45-10:15 am

Hartsbrook Hawks Soccer!

9/17/13 - Coed JV Soccer Hartsbrook 7  /  Center 1

The JV season opened with a coed match versus Center School.  Both teams showed their early season greenness, as they hunted for confidence, but the determination of Hartsbrook's individual play brought several highlights, among which was Parker's impressive score off a direct kick.

On Thursday, the boys and girls JV teams attended a UMASS women's game vs. Brown, where the girls had a close-up view from the sidelines as ball girls.

9/20/13 - Coed JV Soccer Hartsbrook 5 / Steiner 4
Steiner jumped out to a quick lead, and Hartsbrook was down 4-1 by the half. Following the break, Hartsbrook rallied, with Hannah Jones scoring a one-touch redirect to tie with about 15 minutes left.   An attentive Hartsbrook defense in the final minutes shut down some strong Steiner pushes while at the other end Abel drove in the winning goal.

Hartsbrook Family Camping

8/6/14 ~ 8/10/14 ~ Save the Date!

Campers making tube chutes
in the river!

Each year Hartsbrook families chip in to rent the entire
Indian Hollow campground in Chesterfield, MA. Some families come just for the day, others stay four nights. Children of all grades bike through the woods, build chutes and play in the river, play capture the flag, and have a grand time. Hike, lounge in a chair, or join the music making while you roast s'mores.
On our last night, following a communal bonfire and sing along, the high school students often sleep out under the stars in the field.

For information, directions (Google and state Web sites are totally inaccurate), or to find out why this is my favorite event of the summer, contact Tim McNerney at 413-341-1379.
