Today - Pastor Ron brings the message: Evangelism: Another Absolute Necessity in Following Christ The Definition of Evangelism Evangelism is the verbal and visible declaration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the sins of mankind, done with the intent of leading people to salvation. Jesus Believed Evangelism Was Important Anything repeated five times as the commission to take the gospel to the world has to be a high priority on our list too. So let's look at the giving of that commission in each of the gospels and in Acts. Exercising the Authority of Christ The first commission we need to consider is Matthew 28:18-20. Matthew 28:18-20 Going Into All the World The emphasis in Mark's gospel is on the totality of our evangelistic task. Jesus leaves no corner of the world untouched. Mark 16:15-16 Being Witnesses of Christ Christ's commission in the gospel of Luke emphasizes that as His disciples, we are to be His witnesses. Luke 24:46-49 Declaring God's Forgiveness The Gospel of John highlights a different aspect of Christ's command to share the gospel. John 20:21-23 Jesus is saying that we have the authority to declare what happens in Heaven when a person accepts or rejects Christ. You and I have the privilege of telling someone that if he will accept Christ his sins are forgiven. Going in the Power of the Spirit The final commission is found in Acts 1:8. Acts 1:7-8 Here's a foundational truth that we must not miss. Witnessing is not dependent upon you, but upon the power of the Holy Spirit at work in you. Let's Do It! |
