Dear Or Chadash congregants and community: Nearly two-thousand years ago Rabbi Tarfon said: "You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it."  (Pirke Avot)
This past Sunday, members and friends of Or Chadash joined together to do Tikkun Olam -- repairing the world.
Now that the mulch has been spread and the hedges trimmed, our organic garden has been planted to provide fresh vegetables to the Food Pantry, dozens of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and lunch bags have been delivered to the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program, car loads of non-perishable food have been delivered to the Flemington Food Pantry, many many pints of blood have been donated and more individuals have signed-up for "Be the Match," the bone marrow registry, a huge family of HappyDolls have been decorated and are en route to friends in other continents, freshly filled teddy bears have been delivered to the pediatric unit of the Hunterdon Medical Center, girly swag bags have been created, decorated and delivered for hospitalized girls, a life-time supply of stress balls were placed in the hands of Van Derveer Elementary School students, our windows washed, our library completely re-organized, our school bins inventoried, dozens of chocolate chip cookies were baked, delivered, and likely already consumed by the boys at the Hunterdon Youth Services on Sandhill Road, two Hunterdon County Parks and Recreation trails were cleared, SAFE houses were stocked with supplies, coupons clipped, bird nests were knitted, fleece blankets tied, paper bones were made and shipped to be displayed at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the One Million Bones Genocide Awareness Project, the Oldwick Park and Ride was de-littered, Rolling Hills Nursing Home residents were entertained by our Shir Chadash choir, and bicycles were collected for the Boys/Girls Club Bike exchange...PHEW...it is time to thank you.
Thanks to ALL our Mitzvah Day volunteers for making Or Chadash Mitzvah Day 2013 such a spectacular success for our community and the community which we serve.  We hope that you will enjoy seeing Glenn Wasserman's photos that capture just some of the activities of this very rewarding day at Or Chadash and in our community.
