Con Spirito Events for Fall 2015

Wednesday, September 23. Air Force Band of Mid-America, Chamber Recital Series, 7:30 p.m. The Chamber Recital Series offers the musicians of the US Air Force Band of Mid-America an opportunity to present chamber works in a concert setting. Every recital offers eclectic solo, duo and chamber ensembles that will perform works from the Renaissance Period to contemporary styles. 

Sunday, October 4. St. Louis Brass, 3:00 p.m. Founded in 1964, the Saint Louis Brass Quintet is one of America's longest standing brass quintets.

All Con Spirito concerts are held in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, 100 E. Adams Avenue.  Events are free. A free will offering will be taken. 


St. Louis Writers' Guild

Workshop September 12.  Twisting a Story: Nonlinear Plotting Strategies.  Author/illustrator Jennifer Stolzer will give an overview of Twine--an open-source tool for creating interactive, nonlinear stories. Presented by the St. Louis Writers Guild from 10:00 a.m. to noon, at the Kirkwood Community Center, 111 S. Geyer Road, in Kirkwood. Free for Guild members; $5 for nonmembers.

Sadie Hawkins Day, Saturday, September 26:
Kicks off at 10:00 a.m., at the Farmers' Market. All musical performances will happen on the West Jefferson Stage, 100 block of W. Jefferson.

~ Noon: Hoopla Poppers, favorites and oldies, sponsored by PJ's Tavern
~ 2:00 p.m. The Miles, various genres, sponsored by Mike Duffy's Pub & Grill
~ 4:00 p.m. School of Rock Adult Program, rock 'n roll, sponsored by Moonbeams
~ Additionally:  Jeni and Dave (from That 80s Band) will perform in the afternoon on the patio of Kirkwood Station Brewing Company.


Stages St. Louis

The Full Monty, September 4 thru October 4, at the Reim Theatre, Kirkwood Community Center, 111 S. Geyer Road.

Meet Jerry, Dave, Harold, Ethan, Malcolm, and "Horse" - six unemployed steelworkers who come up with a bold and unconventional way to make some much-needed cash.

Laumeier Sculpture Park

September 6.  Free Walking Tour. Docent-led walking tour of the outdoor collection, on the first Sunday of each month, May through October.  Meet at 2:00 p.m., at Tony Tasset's Eye, 2007. 

September 16. Free Stroller Tour.  Third Thursday of the month, May through October. Enjoy adult conversation while strolling the paved paths at Laumeier. Wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the season. Strollers are not provided.  Meet at 10:00 a.m. at Tony Tasset's Eye, 2007.

September 20.  Free Family Day. A chance for family bonding while encouraging observation, imagination, curiosity, and creativity. Structured activities for all ages using a variety of materials. Explore new media and concepts while finding inspiration within Laumeier's natural environment.  2:00-4:00 p.m., at the Kranzberg Education Lab. Free. Supported by PNC Arts Alive.

September 24. Raqs Media Collective Artist Talk.  Join us for a lecture by Fall 2015 exhibition artists Jeebesh Bagchi and Monica Narula of the Raqs Media Collective, a New Delhi-based cooperative with a politically charged artistic and theoretical practice.  7:00 p.m., at the Adam Aronson Fine Arts Center.  Free.

September 26, Carts and Cocktails.  An outdoor progressive party as unique as Laumeier itself.  Guets cruise through the park in golf carts, visiting multiple locations to sip cocktails, savor specialty treats and enjoy live entertainment. 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Ages 21 and up only. Rain or shine. Tickets are $150 to $250.

Friends of Music Concerts

Friends of Music concerts happen at 3:00 p.m., on selected Sunday afternoons, in the comfortable atmosphere and excellent acoustics of Eliot Unitarian Chapel, 100 S. Taylor Avenue, in Kirkwood.  The concerts are free and open to the public.

September 27:  Lee Demertzis and Steven Cheng will play the Robert Schumann Sonata for Violin and Piano in A minor and the Sonatensatz by Johannes Brahms.  On the same program, tenor Jimmy Stevens will perform Schumann's Liederkreis Op. 39, Songs 1-6, an aria from Mozart's Ascanio in Alba, and a set of French songs including Faure's Mandoline, Chausson's Serenade italienne and Duparc's Chanson triste.

Meramec Contemporary Art Gallery

Continuing through September 18:  Fiber Invitational.

October 1 thru 22:  Everywhere and Elsewhere I: Painting Exhibition. Opening Reception: Thursday, October 1, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Gallery Hours:  Monday thru Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed Sundays, holidays, and during spring break.

Art at the Station

August 31 to September 28:  Sandy Baker, Watercolor/Collage. Opening reception: Thursday, September 3, 5:30 p.m.

Art at the Station is held at the Kirkwood Train Station, 110 W. Argonne Drive. Opening receptions are held the first Thursday of the month, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Art may be viewed when the station is open for passengers.

Art at the Station is sponsored by the Kirkwood Arts Commission, with generous support from the Kirkwood Arts Foundation. Exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.
