LET'S TALK SAFETY
FIREWORKS SAFETY MESSAGE FROM THE KIRKWOOD FIRE DEPARTMENT:

Fireworks are often used to mark special events and holidays. However, the use of fireworks by non-professionals is prohibited by law in Kirkwood.  Even sparklers and firecrackers can be dangerous.  If residents want to experience fireworks on Independence Day, the Kirkwood Fire Department encourages you to attend one of the many public displays conducted by professionals in a variety of locations in the St. Louis region, including in Kirkwood Park.

Some Safety Tips and Information:
~ If you find yourself in another community, where personal or consumer fireworks are being used, keep a close eye on children. Sparklers can cause third-degree burns. In 2011, sparklers caused 16 percent of fireworks injuries.
~ In 2011 almost 18,000 fires were caused by fireworks.
~ Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Cakes bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Glass melts at 900 degrees Fahrenheit. Sparklers burn at...12,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
