FROM THE EDITOR: The Mini Blog
Throwback Thursday... I have been thumbing through old photographs, trying to find some to use in a slide show presentation for the March 7 celebration of Mike Brown, Kirkwood's retiring Chief Administrative Officer (tickets are still available - see above).  It is fascinating to see history unfold in some of the large 8x10 black and white photos in the boxes I've located (photo, right, is of the old pool). It is equally fun and funny to see more recent color photos of some of my colleagues here at City Hall, from back in the day.  You know, that day when they were much younger.  I am a fairly recent City employee (five years), so there were a couple of people I work with every day (Kirkwood Police Officer Jim Cox, for one) that I did not even recognize in these photos. Time is a funny thing.

Speaking of time, it's time for the OSCARS!!  A friend of mine hosts an Oscar party every year, wherein we eat fun foods and compete to see who can predict the most winners.  I have won the contest just once.  Each year I try to see as many of the nominees as I can, but this year bad weather hindered my efforts.  I never made it down to see the short/live-action nominees at the Tivoli, but I'm hoping to do so tomorrow.  This is going to be a difficult year in the Best Picture category.  There were several very good films (and I don't say that every year).  I liked "August: Osage County" the best...until I saw "12 Years a Slave," both of which were riveting films.  I also admit to a fondness for the "who wore what" and "who said what" categories, of the event itself:  This Sunday, March 2, 7:00 p.m., on ABC.  (And don't forget to check out the Library's blog post on Oscar-related books and movies and other cool stuff - click here.)

Are you finding it hard to believe that March opens its doors for us on Saturday?  I'm hearing about a possible snow storm on Sunday (don't shoot the messenger, please), but then just a week later, on March 9, daylight savings time will be back, so can consistent warm weather be far behind?  Let's hope not.

Have a great weekend. Stay warm, and see you next Thursday!
