Sanitation News for November:

New Trucks and New Routes!

New Trucks:  The City has purchased five new residential sanitation trucks, all of which went into service this month.  The new trucks have a lower hopper, ensuring some flexibility in service options for the future.  Pictured below, these trucks can be used to collect recycling carts, but the lower hopper means they can be used for trash and yard waste as well.

Sanitation Route Changes Coming in January

You asked for it!  We Listened!  Many residents asked that the City return to a four-day-a-week sanitation schedule and eliminate Saturday collections (on holiday weeks).   Kirkwood Sanitation will move from the current five-day residential collection schedule (Monday through Friday) to a four-day schedule (Monday through Thursday), eliminating Friday residential collection altogether (except for holiday weeks, when Thursday routes are collected on Fridays).

This will be effective January 6, 2014.

The new four-day schedule will eliminate Saturday collection on holiday weeks, which means a reduction in overtime costs and an increase in efficiency.  The City's collection routes have been re-organized into four equal quadrants.

Not Everybody Will Be Affected - Only the Following:

~ Friday Routes (all households will switch to a new collection day)

~ Some households with collection Monday through Thursday will switch to a new day.

~ THE UPSHOT: About a THIRD of Kirkwood households will be affected

If you will be affected, you will receive a letter in late November and another reminder the week before the change.  If you want to know now:  Two maps and a spreadsheet showing the affected households are available NOW on the Website at this link.

The good news is:  No Kirkwood residential customers will have to worry about Saturday collection again, even on holiday weeks.  All customers will have their trash and recycling collected on Monday through Thursday, so on holiday weeks, even when collection is delayed by a day, Friday will be the last collection day of the week.
