NEWS FROM MODOT

MISSOURI LAUNCHES ENHANCED POTHOLE PATROL

The Missouri Department of Transportation will kick off an enhanced pothole repair initiative next week. Maintenance crews will commit to repairing a pothole with asphalt within 24 hours of it being reported on weekdays. MoDOT's goal is to aggressively tackle potholes to keep highways smooth and safe for St. Louis motorists.

When a pothole is reported to MoDOT, it will be filled within 24 hours on a weekday. Crews aim to tackle potholes early and get the asphalt mix filled in the hole while it is still small, benefiting both the department and motorists. MoDOT urges motorists to report potholes to by calling 1-888 ASK MoDOT.

IT'S OFFICIALLY SPRING!

It's officially springtime. That also means it's officially the season of construction, pothole repairing, and striping work for MoDOT crews and their multiple "moving" work zones. Pothole patching and striping operations require frequent short-term stops or reduced speed on busy interstates and roadways. Motorists should be on the lookout for trucks and give them plenty of room to work.  When motorists see orange signs, they are there for a reason:  Please slow down and be alert.  For additional work zone information, go to modot.org. For real time traffic, visit gatewayguide.com. All work is weather permitting and may be shifted due to inclement weather.

CLARKSON ROAD WORK BEGINS WEEK OF MARCH 25:

MoDOT will begin temporary pavement repair work at various locations on Clarkson Road between Clayton Road and Lea Oak next week. The temporary repairs will begin Tuesday, March 26, weather permitting. Crews will focus on this section with a one-lane closure on weekdays from 9:00 a.m., to 3:00 p.m. Motorists can expect delays, so allow plenty of time for your commute.  MoDOT's maintenance crews will continue to frequently sweep this section of Clarkson Road and patch potholes. As we move out of winter-like temperatures, MoDOT has a resurfacing project funded for Clarkson Road from Clayton Road to Lea Oak that will begin in late April to permanently repair this important route.

FROM SAINT LOUIS COUNTY
COUNTY INSTALLS ADDITIONAL OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS AND MODIFIES MONTHLY OUTDOOR SIREN TEST

Saint Louis County installed two new outdoor warning sirens last week, bringing the total to 199 sirens in the network. One of the new sirens was installed in Kirkwood, at Fire Station #2 on Big Bend.  The other was installed in Bridgeton.  The two new units will be tested along with all other sirens during the scheduled monthly test at 11:00 a.m., on April 1 (weather permitting).

The County has also made a change to the monthly siren test.  In response to feedback from the public, the St. Louis County Emergency Communications Commission has decided to reduce the duration of the monthly outdoor warning siren test from three minutes to one minute, effective April 1. Improvements in the technology and design of the siren network allow for the reduction in testing time without impact to operational readiness.

Please Note:  Although the sirens will only sound for one minute during the monthly tests, during an actual tornado, the warning will still be signaled by activating the sirens for the full three minutes.

FROM THE EDITOR: The Mini Blog
WELCOME TO SPRING!!

Well, almost.  Spring officially started at 6:03 a.m., on Tuesday (the Spring Equinox), but you couldn't really tell it by looking outside.  To be fair, Tuesday was mostly sunny in Kirkwood (but not elsewhere in the region:  North County had clouds and snow flurries), but it was COLD.  It's been a chilly first week of spring, but even so, I'm seeing daffodils peeking up and budding out all over the area. The tulips can't be far behind.

It's also the time of year for religious holidays.  Some of you will celebrate Passover next week:  Chag Sameach.  Others are planning for the most somber day on the Christian calendar, Good Friday, and its equally joyous counterpart, Easter:  Happy Easter planning to you.  Still others are just happy to rejoice in the metaphorical rebirth of the Earth that comes each spring.  It's a beautiful time of year.  Stay warm, have a great weekend, and see you next Thursday!
