The other night I attended Lenten worship. The pastor mentioned that he "crushed it" in his sermon. Being a baseball fan I thought of a batter crushing the ball. But the examples given were crushing of bugs, aluminum cans, and cars. Where did this idea of crushing even come up? In Isaiah 53:5 (RSV) it states: "But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities."
Instead of us being crushed for our sins, our Lord and Savior got crushed because someone had to pay for our sins. We see how he got "crushed" by those who mocked and whipped and eventually executed our Lord on the cross. "He was crushed for our iniquities."
