Greatness
But whoever would be great among you must be your servant. Mark 10:43
It's almost cliché: the crazy parent yelling at his kid or another kid or another parent or the coach or the referee. Competition clouds judgment. In the text above James and John compete for elevated position next to Jesus, and the remaining ten disciples play-out the competitive cliché. Jesus gathers the disciples and redefines what greatness looks like. First, he talks about serving. Second, He gives up his life for the world.
Dear Jesus,
I am caught up in competition. I want to be great. Forgive my self-centered sin and move me to serve those around me. Let my hands and words show your greatness.
A-men.
