 | | | On Whose Authority?
And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"
Matthew 21:23-27
I tend to rest on my own authority, especially when the matter is somewhat unclear or needs a bit of worldly wisdom. It happens at work, with my spouse, with my kids...all the time. In fact, I feel down-right righteous when an issue requires my authoritative decision-making. If only I would fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith!
Dear Lord Jesus,
I am eager to obey my own wisdom rather than search your will for my daily life. Press me to focus on your authority and direct me in your ways. Humble me to accept your authority and to rely on your grace.
A-men.
