Every year when our children were still at home we had the tradition of taking their picture before the first day of school. They knew it was coming. The bus driver was very patient. As one of them said, "It looked weird getting on the bus with Mom standing there taking pictures." Those pictures are great memories.
There was a quote I read Robin Williams made to someone at a special time in their life, "Remember this moment. Remember this because things like this don't happen very often. Remember this time."
