Whether it is driving around Wisconsin or Michigan one often sees a pile of rocks that is on the side of the field. Anyone that has farmed knows full well what it means. Someone had the task over the years to go through the fields and pick up rocks. It is not a pleasant task. (I have heard that "walking beans" is not much fun either.)
I tell you that because I had to do it. My summer job during my high school years was working for Ed and Nancy on their dairy farm. It was about this time of year that I was assigned the task to go out into the cornfield and pick up rocks so "we don't ruin the machinery." It was probably my least favorite job. Out in the field, by yourself, in the heat of the day, walking around the field and picking up rocks and then carrying them to the stone cart behind the Massey-Ferguson. Ugh!
