School News
Dear Principal,
I hope this week of fun and excitement remind you how blessed so many people are because of your leadership. Thanks for a great week of celebration and thanksgiving!

DJ
NWD Focus

The NWD exists to encourage, network and equip leaders. Call DJ, Dennis or President Lueck as ministry happens in your church and school.

Trego Leadership Retreat

SAVE THE DATE! Yes, a fantastic event is planned for August 4-6. We have an exceptional speaker who has recently lead retreats for the national education executives conference, Michigan principals, the Pacific Southwest principals, and others. We are blessed to have secured Gretchen Jameson, new

to Concordia University/Wisconsin and Ann Arbor as Vice President for University Strategy, Culture and External Relations. Gretchen will lead us on the most critical area of school success: branding. We will walk through the essentials of Brand baseline/building/boosting. Watch for more about how Gretchen plans to help our schools be all God intends them to be! Encourage your early childhood people, maybe a pastor, and definitely Admissions Counselors to attend! Registration will be out soon!

Teachers

If you are hiring, please contact the office. DJ receives names every week and can provide you a list of candidates, people who WANT to move to Wisconsin! If you would like reminders and support in the call process, let me know.

Hearts For Jesus

Last week the video introducing Owens Mission was sent to leaders in the North and South WI districts. A powerpoint was sent this week, and a poster posted to the District website. We are hoping to combine for nearly $20,000 towards this project from Lutherans for Life!

Arbor Day

The Department of Natural Resources helps celebrate Arbor Day with an environmental education program designed to teach students the importance of trees within our environment. Annually, the state nursery program provides 75,000 free tree seedlings to Wisconsin fourth grade students for this celebration. Go to http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/treeplanting/arborForm.asp to fill out order form and for more details about the program. Teachers can place their orders until March 15.

LEA National Administrators Conference

With an emphasis on the leader's role in care for church workers, we are pleased to have as a workshop leader Gregory Love, who will lead the group through the challenging topics of sexual abuse and school safety.  Sixteen sectionals, two worship experiences, 25-30 exhibitors, and en evening at Busch Stadium round out the three days.  It's one of those events that should not be missed!  If you haven't already done so, please go to the registration site for more information.

Athletics

Do you know about the Lutheran Grade School State Basketball Tournament of Champions in March? Check out http://lsawi.org/. There is also a State cross country meet and State volleyball championship in October.

Assessment

Click here to see the page on the NWD site under the schools tab, written by the state of WI to explain the big changes in state testing. Imagine how smart you will sound when talking to your board about the direction your school plans to take in response to the local school system.

PDP's

Your teachers need a PDP to be licensed. MyQEI and WECan are the two tools that are now being used. I am on the DPI's list of trained reviewers. More trainings will be available soon. I had shared a CESA 9 January training "how to make your PDP". The next will be held in June. Direct your interested staff to the state website on PDPs at:

Genesis Virtual Academy

Started for homeschoolers, but now a supplement to Lutheran schools. It's a cost effective way to meet the needs of students in a blended format. Kim is a great tech resource, and a national expert in online learning. Lutheran, accredited, orange is good, genesis has more flexible enrollment with individualized schedule and wider variety of courses.

EC Conference

The Minnesota Early Childhood Conference strives to provide spiritual enrichment and continuing education for early childhood educators. We believe that early childhood educators must be affirmed, valued, and challenged in their work with young children. We are a Christian conference that strives to help teachers grow professionally but also recognizes that spiritual growth is an area of development as well. To support this mission we will provide worship, motivational keynotes, and sectionals for the unique needs of program directors and teachers of children from birth to age eight. March 14 & 15, 2014,  Concordia University, St. Paul- http://www.csp.edu/earlychildhood/.

This character education program, referred to as "Heart Education," offers resources for children, parents, teachers and business professionals. MOH provides classroom application-level learning through our own evidence-based curriculum for students and professional instruction through seminars, workshops and conferences for adults.
