THINK AND PRAY!
Rev. Dwayne Lueck
"The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire." (Neh 1:3 ESV) There was trouble in Jerusalem and Nehemiah was in Persia. After praying for guidance he gets permission from King Artaxerxes to return to Jerusalem and we are told "So I went to Jerusalem was there three days. Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. And I told no one what my God had put into my heart to do for Jerusalem" (2:11-12). Nehemiah had to do some thinking and praying - what were they going to do? After much thought and prayer a plan was given and the people carried it out.
It is March and it is Lent. It is a busy time in the parish as there are extra services and Holy Week to prepare for later this month. Pastors are not only busy but so are people in their daily life. But something I want to suggest to you is that you still take time to think and to pray. One author stated: "How difficult it is do find a person who really thinks first - and then acts!" Nehemiah thought and then acted.
- Thinking is hard work. People get tired thinking.
- Thinking includes praying and quietness. It means setting a specific time or place to think and pray.
- Thinking calls for thinking through a plan and what the pitfalls may be.
Give yourself time for thinking and prayer. Be a leader from the knees up!

A dozen members of Trinity (Stewart Avenue, Wausau) gathered in February for a 3-hour introductory workshop on Faith Aflame 360,

LCMS congregations. The workshop, led by District President Dwayne Lueck, is a preview of the education process - designed to change the stewardship culture.
The vision for stewardship in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod is that the stewardship culture in every congregation would be one where every professional church worker, every man, women, and child would know that they are God's steward by His grace, live as His disciples, and manage the gifts He entrusts to them with joy and generosity. The outcome for this is for God's purposes would be accomplished and His mission enhanced.
One of the reasons many churches and many church leaders have relegated stewardship education to the back burner (or do not do it at all) is because they see it as primarily an institutional issue instead of a spiritual issue. Institutional issues are about budgets, building s, salaries and other financial aspects of church life. Spiritual issues are about the relationship God has established with us in Christ. Christian stewardship is more a spiritual issue than it is a financial issue because it is about our life in Christ.
After the workshop, Trinity congregation will determine if they will enter into a commitment to participate in the process. If they commit, they agree to meet together once a month for nine months during the following year. For more information, go to faithaflame.lcms.org. Faith Aflame materials are available at no cost.

We live in a world that has lost its story; that is, there is no thread of continuity with the Christian heritage of the west. People live increasingly chaotic lives as they scramble to create meaning out of their own experience. This SPOTLIGHT draws on key elements of Lutheran teaching to meaningfully engage the "nons" of our time who call themselves "spiritual, but not religious" while outlining a faithful Third Article mission paradigm Schedule here

News from CHP
USPS Delivery Changes Have Minimal Impact on CHP Members: The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently announced they will stop delivery of letters on Saturdays starting the week of August 5, 2013. However, Saturday delivery changes will have minimal impact on Concordia Health Plan members who receive prescriptions through Express Scripts mail order delivery. Prescription medication shipments are considered to be a package shipment, and the USPS will continue to deliver packages on Saturday. Express Scripts has confirmed the USPS will do the following: - Include all parcel services in the packages delivered on Saturdays - including First Class Parcel, Priority Mail Parcel, Parcel Select, Lightweight Parcel.
- Plan to continue to pick up parcels from mailers like Express Scripts who currently get Saturday parcel pick-up service from the USPS.
- Continue to provide mail clerks on-site to accept mail on Saturdays.
- Evaluate the impact of this change on the delivery standards (1-3 days).
- Change the processing schedules at their origin/destination facilities.
- Continue to pick up mail at the Post Office for PO boxes as it is currently for mail-room, remittance processing, etc.
