December 2014
New Adult Medicaid Benefit Program

The SC Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) has implemented an Adult Preventative Dental benefit effective December 1, 2014. Covered services include diagnostics, extractions, fillings and an annual cleaning, up to a maximum of $750 per state fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). DHHS will honor the full $750 maximum benefit for the period of time from December 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

DentaQuest will process claims for the adult benefit as they do for the children's benefit. It is important to know that no dentist needs to change their current practice patterns due to this new benefit, but the SCDA does encourage everyone to take part in this new program if it fits into their practice.

Macaulay Museum of Dental History

The Macaulay Museum of Dental History Campaign Committee is seeking to create a list in tribute to the real "Macaulay Boys."  Part of Dr. Neill Webster Macaulay's legacy, the Macaulay Boys were assisted by Dr. Macaulay in attending dental schools in the region prior to the establishment of the College of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.  If you are a Macaulay Boy or know someone who is (alive or deceased), please contact Toni Jernigan at jernigat@musc.edu or 843-792-2236.

In addition, the Macaulay Legacy Campaign kicked off on Friday, October 24th at Dr. Staci Gaffos' private museum in Columbia, SC.  The campaign has achieved over 18% of its $400,000 goal.  For more information on the Macaulay Legacy Campaign, please contact Toni Jernigan at jernigat@musc.edu or 843-792-2236.
