Important Fluoridation News

The American Dental Association (ADA) received a request from Costco to participate in an "informed debate" on fluoridation that would be printed in the
Costco Newsletter.  Costco noted that their publication was sent to 8 million businesses and their employees and family members across the country and is read by close to 20 million people in addition to being posted and read extensively online.

The ADA agreed to participate. Working in collaboration with CAPIR, Dr. Howard Pollick, a member of the ADA National Fluoridation Advisory Committee authored the piece and did a great job conveying the ADA position on water fluoridation.  In plain language, Dr. Pollick explained to readers how fluoridated water not only helps decrease tooth decay by 25 percent, it's also responsible for cutting down on dental costs since every $1 invested in water fluoridation saves communities $38 in dental treatment costs.

The "Informed Debate" is now available in the June Costo Connection.  The full article can be found online here.  Costco is also doing an online poll asking readers to weigh in on whether they think water should be fluoridated. Look for the poll to the right of your screen, take two seconds and VOTE!  The critical time to vote is in the next two weeks.

Dr. Rocky Napier who serves on the ADA's Council on Access Prevention and Interprofessional Relations urges each member to read the article and vote.
