SCDA Annual Convention
Although the early registration deadline has passed, you can still sign up for the SCDA Annual Convention. The Convention Committee, along with President Edmonds, has planned an outstanding program. Visit the convention website which lists all of the details and events for the meeting.
One event you will not want to miss will be the DenPAC breakfast which has been moved to Friday, May 3 this year. This year we have a very special guest, Lt. Governor McConnell. He will be joining us and presenting a history of the Hunley.
The Lt. Governor has remarked many times over the years that even though people try to rewrite our history books on a daily basis, the true story of our collective history must be remembered for future generations. As Chairman of the Hunley Commission, Lt. Governor McConnell has worked tirelessly to memorialize the lives of the men,who gave their lives to test the limits of technology and to fight for their cause of freedom, aboard the H. L. Hunley. |
New Employer Requirements Mandated by Homeland Security
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is requiring all employers to ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States including citizens and noncitizens. Both employees and employers (or authorized representatives of the employer) must complete the form. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee must also present his or her employer with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization.
There is no fee for completing Form I-9 and the form is not filed with the office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or any government agency. However, employers are responsible for completing and retaining the form for a designated period and making it available for inspection by authorized government officers.
Additional information is available in documents posted at the USCIS Website, including the USCIS I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification form, which also offers links to the new Form I-9 and a handbook for employers with guidance for completing Form I-9.
