If your practice is on the SCDA group medical plan and you received information within your November premium billing statement from Mercer discussing continuing to grandfather your practice through an attestation exercise and you have yet to submit this information back to BlueCross, time is running short.

Within the November billing statements was information on the 2013 group medical plan renewal. Also included, within SOME practices' statements, was information discussing a "grandfathering process" through an attestation exercise. If this information was not in your November statement, then you need not read this topic any further because this doesn't apply to your practice.

A final reminder will be mailed to affected practices soon and it will be separate from your billing statement this time around. This attestation process will continue to grandfather your practice for the 2013 year. Healthcare reform is not clear on whether those practices that complete the attestation process will be able to continue to be considered grandfathered come 2014 and moving forward. We are waiting further guidance from the administration on this issue and we expect to learn more soon, but if you have any desire to remain a grandfathered practice for 2013 and possibly moving forward, be sure to complete the attestation and send in to BlueCross via the contact information on top of the attestation form as soon as possible.

If you have been on the medical plan prior to July of 2004 and do not have 50% participation among the employees within your practice, you will need to complete the attestation form in order to keep your benefits in place.

If you completed this exercise and would like to receive written confirmation back from BlueCross to ensure that they received it, feel free to e-mail them at [email protected] or fax them at 803-870-9128.
