Creating opportunities for all to thrive

         e-Touch                                                                     May 2014

LaDonnaDear Friends,

Have you noticed? It's spring, and poets have their way with us in spring.

Take Robert Frost who wrote:

"Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today

And give us not to think so far away

As the uncertain harvest; keep us here

All simply in the springing of the year."

Wise words for those who waited long for spring.

Seems we need to pause for times like these when nature signals fresh hope is near, is here.

We need to tend to hope in spring and let its beauty heal the broken places where love falls short or courage fails.

To let the poets and what's green and flowering give us reason to take heart. And maybe do a thankful dance for being here...in the springing of the year.

Earl Cup Woodhill Classic

LaDonna Hoy and
Nancy Holden

Please join us for this year's Earl Cup Woodhill Classic Golf event on Monday, Sept. 15.

An exciting day of golf at the legendary Woodhill Country Club will begin with an 11 a.m. lunch followed by a 12 noon shotgun (2 best balls of 4 net), and end with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

New this year is an opportunity for golfers to support Project Success, a two-year program of IOCP that helps families move from needing emergency services to independent living. The program includes skills training, parenting classes, budget planning and goal setting. Project Success truly empowers families to take care of themselves and thrive!

Participants have gone on to achieve degrees and pursue careers in the dental and medical fields, criminal justice and customer service areas.

Please join us for a fun and inspiring day! The Earl Cup fee is $3,000 per foursome, ($750 per player) and is 75% tax deductible. Please RSVP by July 15 by emailing Cate Fossing or calling 763-489-7513.

Volunteer Spotlight:
Wayzata Garden Club

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers of the Wayzata Garden Club for once again planting a beautiful garden in our parking lot this spring.

In the early 1990s, the Wayzata Garden Club launched their tending of IOCP gardens at our former address with an Open Garden dedication in memory of Sally MacMillan, a beloved and longtime garden club leader.

They lovingly tended our gardens there season after season, and then, generously, decided to follow us to our new address in Plymouth.

Neighborhood Plant Sale: Over a Decade of Giving Back

The annual neighborhood plant sale held its last sale at a private home on 12th Avenue North in Plymouth. In 13 years, the sale generated more than $170,000 for IOCP programs, while bringing neighbors and volunteers together to support a great cause. Countless perennials have been dug up, donated, sold and planted over the years. Dedicated volunteers and master gardeners have staffed the sale, helping customers choose the perfect plants for their garden.

A huge thank you to the amazing group of volunteers who have made this sale possible year after year.

IOCP expects for the plant sale to continue in a different location in 2015. Watch for updates next spring.

CfKl Breakfast Raises over $90,000!

On May 1, nearly 300 community leaders came together to support the 8th Annual Caring for Kids Initiative Breakfast at Wayzata Country Club. More than $90,000 was raised to provide scholarships for kids in our community to attend quality early education centers.

A highlight of the event was featured speaker R.T. Rybak, executive director of Generation Next and former Minneapolis mayor. Thank you to event chair Paty Conchon, R.T. Rybak, Dr. Stacey Lackner and generous sponsors and attendees!

Pictured left to right are R.T. Rybak, IOCP Executive Director LaDonna Hoy, CfKI Director Brenda Heim and Wayzata Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Chace B. Anderson.
