Creating opportunities for all to thrive

         e-Touch                                                                      October 2012

LaDonnaThe early snow was a gentle however fleeting prompt for getting ready for Sleep Out 2012.

Unlike a natural phenom like October snow, the Sleep Out is a planful community-wide phenom made possible year after year by the heart and commitment of a "whole village." With a few miracles thrown in.

A village determined to remove barriers that keep some of its families and kids out of the mainstream and in the margins of their dreams. A community-wide phenom with a powerful and lasting impact on the futures of the people God entrusts to our care.

It's time to take up the irreplaceable role you and your family, your workplace, your school, your business, your faith community, your book club or bowling league, etc., can play in this sacred venture, and come along. For our families. For our kids. Sleep Out 2012 provides a way.

See www.iocp.org for more information, idea starters and ways to become engaged. Bring your family and friends to an exciting Nov. 10 energizer kickoff at Klapprich Park in Wayzata at 7 p.m. Come. Come. Catch the spirit! It's such a good thing!

Sleep Out 2012

In our community, 1,700 families are strugging to make ends meet. Now in its 17th year, the Sleep Out has become our way to put these families on a path from survive to thrive. Our goal this year is to raise $1.95 million. The ultimate objective? To change the odds for these 1,700 families. We hope we can count on your support!

On Saturday, Nov. 10, you're invited to join us for our annual Sleep Out Kickoff. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with prayers walks in Wayzata and Plymouth and continues at 7 p.m. with a kickoff rally at Klapprich Park. KARE 11's Kim Insley will serve as emcee for the evening, which includes a fun family activity, complimentary snacks and live music.

New this year, beginning at 8 p.m., is our hip-hop warm up featuring IOCP case manager Kai Anderson and his hip-hop band, Bars & Measures, who will teach you moves to keep you warm all night long.

And we hope you'll gather your friends, family, donations and pledges and sleep out after the hip-hop warm up and support our annual campaign.

Maggie Manor Groundbreaking

On Oct. 23, the community gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony for Maggie Manor.

A new family housing development at the site of our former office in Wayzata, Maggie Manor will make family rental housing available for six families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to raise their children in a community with quality schools, walkable shopping, strong faith communities, employment opportunities and much more. "It takes a whole village to create opportunities like this," said LaDonna Hoy, IOCP executive director. "Maggie Manor represents this village at its best."

In My Words   Cory

"I don't know what would have happened had we not gotten the help we did from Interfaith. IOCP literally helped keep our lights on - in fact they turned the lights on when the electricity was turned off."                           - Cory

Cory is one of many IOCP clients who has benefited from a variety of our programs, including employment services.
