Creating opportunities for all to thrive

         e-Touch                                                                      September 2012

Fall hovers, and harvesting the almost dizzying growth of a first year in our new space and gearing up for exciting days ahead compete for our attention.

To catch up with just some of what this amazing can-do community made possible in fiscal 4/1/11-3/31/12, I encourage you to click on Annual Report NEW under Links.

Looking to the fall/winter horizon, you might want to check out Upcoming Events including (can you believe it) Sleep Out 2012, Change Your Stripes, the third in the very successful four-series employment program, the Adopt a Family registration, and the CfKI December fundraiser production of "Elf" at the Ordway. Something for everybody.

What a year this has been! What exciting days ahead! Thank you for staying with us in all seasons.

Get in the Holiday Spiritholiday photo

It's not too early to start thinking about the holidays. We already have two ways for supporters to get involved:

Sign up for IOCP's Adopt-a-Family Holiday Gift Program

Register today to sponsor a family in need and provide holiday gifts for them. The program links about 450 families requesting holiday gift assistance with sponsors who anonymously provide gifts based on a $50-per-person guideline. Learn more.

Treat Your Family to "Elf" at the Ordway

Reserve your tickets today for this special holiday performance of "Elf" on Dec. 13 and support Caring for Kids Initiative. Tickets are $175 (mezzanine) and $200 (main floor) and include priority seating, a hearty hors d'oeuvres dinner and dessert. Of each ticket we sell, about $80 goes to support early childhood education scholarships in our community. By buying tickets today, you can have a memorable evening out with your family or friends - and help a young child in need in our community. For tickets, contact Jeannie Buckner (952-240-4924 or buck6@comcast.net), or call the Ordway (651-224-4222).

A Hole in One for IOCP

The winning foursome from left: Bob Hegstrom, Bob Weiss, Phillip Jaffee and Bob Lux.

The Earl Cup Woodhill Classic was held earlier this month and raised more than $55,000. Eighteen foursomes played at the beautiful Woodhill Country Club golf course. Bob Weiss of Beacon Bank sponsored the winning team, which took home the coveted Earl Cup Champion trophies.

Three experienced event planners, Carol Bergenstal, Jane Brattain and Barbara Carlson, along with staff member Cate Fossing, worked to make the event a great success. If you'd like to play in next year's event, please contact Cate Fossing.

Free Job Search Event

Learn how to change careers and get the job you want! We're hosting speaker Catherine Byers Breet in an event that's free and open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 2. Titled Change Your Stripes: Do What You Love for a Living, the event will teach attendees three steps to break through job search barriers. Limited seats remain, and reservations are required.

Flag Dedication at IOCP

Flag Dedication at speaker series with Ruth Shannon

Members from American Legion Post 118 in Wayzata presented a flag to IOCP at the beginning of the Wayzata Community Education's Women Warriors Speaker Series that featured longtime supporter Ruth Shannon. The series explores the evolution of women's service in the military. In part one, Shannon spoke about the time she spent in the Navy Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) during World War II.

The Power of Your Holiday Gift

Amy was struggling to pay her rent. She was working hard to find a better job and couldn't afford to give her son a holiday gift. Thanks to our Holiday Gift Program, Amy and her son both received gift cards and bought some much-needed new clothes. Amy's son also received a bike. They are both extremely grateful to IOCP and our donors.

Amy is one of many IOCP clients who has benefited from our employment services and Holiday Gift Program.
