City Church
July 25th, 2013 | volume 6 | issue 30
God has given us two distinct paths to walk in life. The life of wisdom, and the life of the fool. In our new series, "Walk The Line," we will be looking at how a relationship with Jesus Christ will allow us to walk the line of wisdom in every area of our lives.

We hope you can join us at our 10:30 a.m. service! City Church Youth meets at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening.

City Speak

by Zach Meredith
First Impressions Intern

Ever since I can remember I have been a worrier.  I could find something to worry about in every aspect of life, from school to friends and acceptance.  I'm not sure where I picked up this trait; maybe from the people pleasing side of me.  All the way up until college I can remember not being able to sleep at night or feeling nauseous at all hours of the day because of an event or potential problem that was coming up.  Being worried all the time had a strangle hold on me.  I was scared to experience new things and meet new people.  This mindset affected my call to spread the Gospel.  I was, and still am, worried about what people might think of me or how I might come across.

When looking back at my journey, my middle and high school years were spiritually neutral for me.  There was no growth or decay, just lukewarm and apathetic.  The gospel and its implications did not click with me until college.  Both City Church and Christian Campus Fellowship at FSU have been vital in my walk with God.  I have been learning and growing.  Although I continue to struggle with anxiety, God has given me a sense of security in Him.  This is something that I do not deserve but because of His great love for us He has decided to make me apart of his plan.

Finally, I would like to share with you a few verses that have been a rock when I struggle with anxiety.  "Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your graciousness be known to everyone.  The Lord is near.  Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which spurpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable- if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise- dwell on these things.  Do what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:4-9 HCSB  "Haven't I commanded you: be strong and courageous?  Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  Joshua 1:9 HCSB

These verses remind me that the only thing in life that is truly important is serving Christ, not tests, or friends, or money, or acceptance.  While these things can be important they hold no eternal significance.  My sole purpose on this earth is to serve God and spread the good news of the Gospel.
