City Church
June 27th, 2013 | volume 6 | issue 26
God has given us two distinct paths to walk in life. The life of wisdom, and the life of the fool. In our new series, "Walk The Line," we will be looking at how a relationship with Jesus Christ will allow us to walk the line of wisdom in every area of our lives.

We hope you can join us at our 10:30 a.m. service at the Tallahassee Mall! If you're in middle or high school, City Church Youth meets at 6:00 p.m.

City Speak

by Nick Cleary

Before sharing my testimony, I'd like to say that I've always shied away from sharing my story thinking it was uninteresting or uninspiring. Now, I have come to the realization that everyone's journey is unique in its own way and can be used to glorify God. I grew up going to a Christian grade school in Tallahassee. My school was very legalistic which didn't mean anything to me at the time. In my elementary years, I came to know Christ as my Savior.

To be completely honest, nothing seemed to change from that day forward. I was always known as the kid who was quiet and behaved really well, fearing to get in trouble for breaking the rules. And that's all it really ever was to me, following the rules.  My days of being a Christian were spent trying to be a good person and doing the "right" things. I didn't know it at the time but I was trying to earn my salvation instead of receive it from God's grace.

I was running in circles. Not falling off the deep end but not furthering my relationship with Him.  I've been in the church my whole life, played in Christian bands, and been a part of Christian organizations, hoping that these "good deeds" would better my relationship with God. Instead of living freely in Him, I was constantly trying to protect myself from making a bad life decision.

CityChurch has been one of the biggest blessings that God has placed in my life. Dean's Gospel-centered messages have helped me break the "do this, don't do that" mentality that has been ingrained in my mind. This is the first church that I actually feel a part of what God is doing. Throughout the past three years at CityChurch, I feel honored to have been able to witness firsthand the growth of fellow believers and the continuous answering of prayers.

I will leave you with my life verse and one thing that God has recently revealed to me. Romans 12:1-2 (ESV) says, "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." This is a constant reminder to abstain from the ways of the world and find shelter in the blood of Christ. God has revealed to me that the Christian life is a struggle. Everyone's struggles are all different but the reward remains the same to those who are faithful. And that reward is incomparable to anything on earth.

(Nick was born and raised in Tallahassee, Fl and has been attending City Church since the Godby days. He is currently a senior at Florida State University double majoring in Editing, Writing, & Media and Humanities and is planning to graduate in the Fall of 2014. On Sundays, he plays on-stage with the City Church band. When he's not playing music, you can find him watching sporting events, working at the Southwood pool, and pretending to be Superman.)
