City Speak

When I moved to Tallahassee in June of 2006 to attend Florida State I quite honestly thought I would be here for about four years. In my mind when that time was done I thought I would move on to something "bigger and better," whatever that actually was. I don't know what I thought that bigger and better was, but I knew it was out there. However, in the Spring of 2008 I attended City Church for the first time, and although I didn't know it at the moment, my plan began to change.
What started as joining a community group and helping to unload a trailer at Godby High School has turned into a chance to help minister to a city and a church I never imagined I would permanently be a part of. I have an incredible job working for the church I love, serving a city I love, that I get to call home.
Every time I looked into what my next steps would be for my life, "Why not Tallahassee?" kept coming back into my mind. And when it was time to make decisions about my future, God allowed for opportunities to exist to keep me here. In Tallahassee. In a city I now love and am passionate about. A city that I desperately believe needs to hear the message of The Gospel that is preached and lived out at City Church.
As I continue to see God move in this city, and through this church, I have a simple challenge for those of you reading this message. How can you answer the question of "Why Not Tallahassee?" in your own life? How can you commit to the vision of City Church here in Tallahassee? For some of you it may be taking a next step in your relationship with Jesus Christ and going public in your faith through Baptism. For others, it may be giving for the first time, or more sacrificially than you are currently. For someone else, it might mean staying in Tallahassee when you are done with school. The answer to that question looks different for all of us, but the answers to that question will hopefully allow all of us to see a movement of God that impacts the eternity of thousands in Tallahassee for years to come.
(Alex Scott, originally from Ft. Meyers, Florida is earned his Bachelors and Masters degree at Florida State in Exercise Science. He's in charge of all things with buttons, switches and knobs as City Church's Production Director, and has been married to his wife Melissa, a nurse, for a year.)
