Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and CAL FIRE recently announced a partnership to help stop wildfires before they start in California. CAL Fire's One Less Spark, One Less Wildfire public safety campaign is a multi-agency effort to minimize the frequency, size and cost of wildfires started by human ignition.

Applications to the City of San Jose's District 8 Youth Advisory Council are open!
Founded in 1969, Youth Advisory Councils (YACs) serve in official advisory capacity to their district representatives by providing support and feedback on local policy issues. Members of YACs enjoy valuable insight on municipal government, and stay informed and engaged with the district through their volunteer efforts and policy recommendations. Volunteer hours are recorded, and meetings occur twice a month at the Evergreen Branch Library.
District 8 is seeking motivated individuals who are looking to contribute to their community. We encourage students of all backgrounds, age s14-20, to apply and participate.

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley recruits, trains and supports volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) to work one on one with foster children, providing critical emotional and educational support, ensuring that each child's needs are met and their voice heard while navigating the court dependency system.
Becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Santa Clara County is truly gratifying and impactful volunteer experience. Children who have a CASA receive more services (medical, dental, academic etc.) and are less likely to reenter the system than those who do not have a CASA.

Now Hiring School Crossing Guards
is recruiting School Crossing Guards to work part-time during the normal school year at the following locations:
- Capitol Expressway/Aborn Road
- Woodbury Lane/Terra Place
- Capitol Expressway/Silver Creek Road
Duties include providing for the safe passage of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets. Generally, these assignments are approximately 10 hours per week, one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. School Crossing Guards are required to wear uniforms and work outdoors regardless of weather conditions.

SJPD and DA's Office Offer $20,000 Reward for Unsolved Homicides
The San Jos� Police Department and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office have teamed up to offer a $20,000 reward to anyone who can give information that leads to the arrest and conviction of suspects in either of the two unsolved city homicides. Investigators believe that the two 2013 slayings - the fatal stabbing of Anthony Daniel Santa Cruz on February 13th near San Jose High School and the South San Jos� shooting death of Justin Watkins on June 26th - are unrelated.
