September 2013 Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

Summer usually dictates a bit slower pace, but the activity in Evergreen has been bustling and productive. We've worked hard this past spring during the budget season to direct funding and support to the stated priorities from community members. These priorities from the community were heard in emails and phone calls to my office as well as public meetings held in our community. They included things such as increased public safety measures, completion of the Highway 101 interchanges, and adding Saturday library hours to our Evergreen Branch Library. You've spoken and we've responded.

TABS (Truancy Abatement/Burglary Suppression)

The San Jos Police Department has reinstated the TABS (Truancy Abatement/Burglary Suppression) program. The TABS program was created with two goals: reduce the number of daytime burglaries in the City and reduce truancy. Past experience has shown that many daytime burglaries are committed by juvenile suspects, many of whom are cutting school. The Police Department will operate a TABS processing center in East San Jose at PAL stadium. This processing center will be staffed with one full-time officer on a daily basis. Additionally, 1 to 2 officers will be deployed per Police Division in September with the sole task of locating truant juveniles and either returning them to their respective school, or transporting them to the TABS center where they will be processed and released to a parent or guardian. In September they will also increase the amount of TABS officers up to 8 throughout the City.
