For the Week of October 3-10
Vol. 9, Issue 35
ONE Ministry Kicks-off This Weekend!

Did you know that Calvary has a marriage ministry? Well, it does and it's called ONE.

This is a great ministry that is designed to support the gift of marriage that God has given us. This ministry is for all couples who are seriously dating, engaged or married.

Marriage is tough, one of the toughest things that we attempt. From day one, Satan is constantly on the prowl attacking all marriages because he wants to prevent couples from receiving God's blessings and His truth that come from it. Marriage is also something that we shouldn't be alone with.

This is the underlying philosophy behind Calvary's marriage ministry, ONE. Throughout the year, ONE will offer a variety of seminars and conferences, fun activities and book studies that help couples of all ages enrich and strengthen their marriage. A strong marriage benefits everyone!

That is why I've decided to highlight this great ministry as they are kicking off their year with a bonfire at Camp Manitoqua (read below more about that event) this weekend! With 85% of members of Calvary who are married, this is definitely a ministry that is needed. I hope you check it out this weekend; my wife and I certainly will be!

ONE Marriage Ministry's Bonfire
Get in the fall season and cozy up with your sweetheart!

Calvary's ONE Marriage Ministry is planning a bonfire "date night" for our fall ministry kick-off on THIS Saturday, October 5 at 7 p.m.

The Bonfire will be at Camp Manitoqua (8122 W. Sauk Trail, Frankfort, IL). All married and pre-married couples are invited to attend! Cost is $5 per couple. We are asking couples to sign up in advance so we have an accurate count. You can sign up online on our website right here!

Any questions? Email one@calvaryop.org or contact Jean Murray.
Life Chain 2013
Join us in protest of abortion

Mark your calendar for THIS Sunday, October 6 from 2-3:30 p.m. Life Chains will again form along local streets across United States and Canada. Standing publicly, Christians will witness to the value of life and pray silently for an end to abortion. Please join Calvary Church as we attend this life-saving event on LaGrange Road in front of Denny's in Orland Park. Any questions, please contact Cindy Spaulding.

Guatemala 2014 Updates
This is our last update for a while!

1. Please note that the Love Offering for our communion service THIS SUNDAY, October 6 is designated for Hearts in Motion. It will specifically be given to help them purchase construction materials used when we and others like us travel there to be the hands and feet of our Lord. Also, we will provide funds to purchase Helping Babies Breath Kits.  These kits are crucial tools in the hands of the birthing assistants who encounter newborns with breathing difficulties. Thank you for your generosity towards HIM.

2. We are humbled and so grateful for the wonderful turnout we had for the golf outing last Saturday. We were blessed with a sunny, warm day. It was a lot of fun to be together in friendly competition. Thank you to all who helped us meet our financial needs for our Guatemala Mission Trip. Thank you for golfing, and thank you to our individual and corporate sponsors. We hope you had as much fun as we did! We have been blessed!!
Trunk or Treat
Join us for some fall fun!

It is time to sign up your trunks for our second annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 26 from 11am-2pm! Get those creative juices flowing! Trunk Prize Categories include Best Autumn Trunk, Most Interactive, Most Creative, Coolest Themed Trunk, Funniest and Best Bible Story Trunk. Sign up in the lobby or go online here to register your trunk. We are expecting 200+ kids! Extra candy for refilling your buckets will be provided!

Other ways YOU can help for Trunk or Treat:

We are in need of volunteers to cover a few shifts for the Parking Team, Welcome Team or Bounce House supervisors.  Also, we are looking for a volunteer photographer for the event - nothing fancy just taking some good shots of the trunks and activities! That's it!

Check out the sign-up sheets online or in the lobby today!

We will also be collecting individually wrapped candy donations to refill trunks.  Please drop off donations by Wednesday, October 23 at the Trunk or Treat table.

This is sure to be a great family event, so be sure to invite neighbors and friends! Additional activities will include hayrides out to a "mini pumpkin patch," pumpkin decorating station, and bounce houses. And since there's no such thing as event without food, Momtourage, our new mom's group, will be providing food at a low cost. Delight in yummy pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, chips and beverages!
We're Searching For the Great Pumpkin!
Maybe not, but we're looking for small/medium pumpkins!

Everybody, it's Trunk or Treat planning time! Tiffany Johnston, our KidsLife Ministry Director, is asking if anyone knows of local farmers who would consider donating small pumpkins or sell them at a low cost for our Trunk or Treat event in October? She is also looking to borrow or rent two costumes that youth can dress up in to take pics with the kiddos. If anybody has any leads on the pumpkins or the costumes, will you please contact her at children@calvaryop.org? Thank you so much for your input!
40 Days of Purpose at New Hope
Join us Saturdays this Fall!

It's hard to believe, but it's been ten years since Pastor Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life came out. Do you remember when we at Calvary did the 40 Days Of Purpose campaign? We couldn't keep the book in stock fast enough! Many people dedicated their lives to Christ during this campaign.

Now it is the 10th anniversary and we are going to do it all over again!

Beginning Saturday, October 12 from 5-7 p.m. we will do a six-week series on this book that will include a video, message, great praise worship and dinner afterwards.

People need purpose. The Purpose Driven Life is a great book that will answer the question, "What On Earth Am I Here For?" Get ready for a wonderful six weeks of self discovery! Be sure to bring friends that would like to join you.

The books will be sold in our Revelations Bookstore for only $12.00 each.

Operation Christmas Child
Calvary's annual Christmas project is back!

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God's love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan's Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.

Starting next Sunday, October 13, you can pick up a shoebox (or provide your own), decide on a girl or boy and their age range (great to match with the age range of your child) and pack it with goodies such as small toys, school items, hygiene items, socks, hair accessories and candy.

All boxes need to be brought back to church no later than Sunday, November 17.

We will then ship them off around the world! Questions? Call the church office or email Tiffany at children@calvaryop.org.

Saturday, October 12, 2013 (9am - 11am)

Like the Walls of Jericho, abortion seems to be an unconquerable stronghold. However, when the people of faith followed the commands of God, the Jericho Walls...fell down. Likewise, by faith we walk to bring down the stronghold of abortion in our culture. Our route: We will meet at Moody Bible Institute and walk approximately 1.5 miles encircling a Planned Parenthood ending up back at Moody. Join us for the "Jericho Walk."

Sunday, October 13, 2013 (1pm - 3pm)

Against all odds, the people of faith succeeded in the rebuilding of the wall in Nehemiah. Likewise, by faith we walk to protect future generations by rebuilding the culture of Life. Our route: We will  meet at Moraine Valley Community College and walk around the college approximately 1.5 miles total. Join us for the "Nehemiah Walk."

All the information you need is right here, including registration.
