Mission Fest THIS Saturday, April 6
| |
Our gospel clearly says "go and serve." Most of us are unable to become full-time missionaries but either hope to serve or want to support short-term missions. This is the reason behind our Mission Festival this weekend. We want to highlight all the ways that we can support missions being done around the world even if we can't physically be there to help out.
We will also have Eric Hanson, International Missions Pastor, Church Missions Consultant and Short-Term Missions Expert and Trainer on hand to present a clear vision on how this can be done! Come and see how supporting missionaries and missions can be done realistically in our church, and how we, as a church, can capture a vision of fulfilling those goals.
Also, be sure to come and take part of Youth Ministry Project Experience! The youth ministry will be participating in this year's Mission Festival by creating an interactive museum that tells of the hardships of life in developing third world countries.
We hope everyone will feel God calling and be bold enough to say, "Yes, Lord!" and follow Him wherever He leads after coming to Mission Fest!
Doors open at 8:45 a.m. and we start at 9:00 a.m. and go to 2:00 p.m. See you there!

Calvary's Stephen Ministry Presents: Alzheimer's Awareness
| | |
We have two presentations coming to Calvary to help spread the awareness of this crippling disease
THURSDAY, APRIL 4 AT 6:30 P.M. - TONIGHT!
Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters
This program focuses on the 10 warning signs of serious memory loss. It includes a basic overview of Alzheimer's disease and covers risk factors, diagnosis, and the benefits of early detection. Through the use of video footage, you will meet people living with memory loss as they address the fears and myths associated with dementia, and hear from the family members who are on the journey with them. You can download a flyer here. There is no charge for this program, however, registration is required. Call 815.744.0804 or visit www.alz.org/illinois to register.
THURSDAY, APRIL 18 AT 6:30 P.M.
Learning to Connect: Relating to the Person with Alzheimer's
As Alzheimer's disease and other, related dementias progress, friends and family members may find it difficult to spend time visiting with the person with dementia. This program will provide insight into dementia and its effect on communication and behavior, and will introduce participants to techniques that can be used to make visits more comfortable and meaningful for all concerned. You can download a flyer here. There is no charge for this program, however, registration is required. Call 815.744.0804 or visit www.alz.org/illinois to register.

If you would be able to let the youth ministry borrow any of the following items, please contact our youth pastor, Dave Grigoletti, at your earliest convenience. All items are needed at the church by Friday, April 5th and should be returned by Sunday, April 7th.
This is what we need:

Mission Trip in January, 2014!
| | |
It's never too early to think about next year!
So, what kind of plans do you have for about the third week in January, 2014? It's not too early to begin to think about an international mission trip. We are beginning to recruit Calvary members who would like to join us for another trip to Zacapa, Guatemala. Does it seem too far distant to even consider? After all, we haven't begun to shake the winter weather from this season and we're talking about January 2014! Yes, but it's important to be able to plan well in terms of things that need to be done on a practical level so we can be as prepared as possible. Are you worried about financing such an adventure? We have some answers and help for you in this area if you are willing to explore the possibility of joining us. After all, if God is calling you to this mission, he will be faithful to provide the means to go. There is always an abundance of work to be done to minister to the poorest people in the country of Guatemala - you do not have to have any specific skill to offer, just a heart of compassion. But also, if you are a person with construction skills or surgical skills, we can use your help in January. We would like to bring a team of construction men who would be interested in taking part in a larger construction project for Hearts in Motion. If God has touched your heart already, start praying about your response to his leading. For more details, see John or Lori Voss. You may call 708.422.4633 in the evening for more information.

Easter Celebration & Egg Hunt Review
Thank you to all who helped with this successful event! Many hands make light work! Thank you to those who donated candy and eggs, those who took time to stuff eggs, and those who were able to assist on the event day. The church was covered in thousands of eggs and we had a wonderful turnout of almost 250 people!
Ministry Serving Opportunities
Is God laying on your heart to get plugged in at Calvary and serve in a ministry? Why not check out the variety of opportunities in our KidsLife programs? Most of the programs are wrapping up the school year, but Fall is already in our sights with preparation! The Cadet program, for 2nd-8th grade boys, is a great ministry for men of all ages to get involved. Or the GEMS ministry is a great place for women to serve. They both only meet two Wednesday evenings a month during the school year! Come and see the heart of these ministries before the end of this ministry season (May) and see how God can work in your life through these programs! Our infants through 5-year-olds are also looking for playmates in the Fall to snuggle and read Bible stories to them on Wednesday mornings during Coffee Break or 2 Fridays a month during MOPS. You will be blessed!
Our Mothers of Preschoolers and More group, are looking for moms of all ages to plan and implement activities for our moms twice a month. It is a great place to bond and share child rearing concerns!
If these ministries are in your field of gifts God has given you, please contact Tiffany Johnston at children@calvaryop.org or give her a call at the church office.
