E. Washington Street Green Street Project
This month construction began on the East Washington Street Green Street project adjacent to the Syracuse Center of Excellence. This project, as part of the Onondaga County Save the Rain program, will capture nearly 1 million gallons of stormwater annually. This capture is one more step in helping the county realize its goal of capturing nearly 250 million gallons of stormwater annually using green infrastructure.
The East Washington Street Green Corridor project will feature several green infrastructure elements including an underground infiltration trench, a dedicated parking lane constructed with porous pavers, and vegetative swales along sections of both sides of the street to store stormwater and reduce combined sewer overflow impacts. In addition to these beneficial green infrastructure items, updated and improved sidewalks will improve the function and accessibility of the corridor.
This project is the fourth project to be funded in part by the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation through their Green Innovation Grant Program (GIGP) and is representative of the strong relationship between the Environmental Fiance Center at the Syracuse Center of Excellence and the Onondaga County Save the Rain program.

HPAC Engineering Features SyracuseCoE and SyracuseCoE Partner Fulton Companies
Pulse-Combustion Boilers Play Key Role in Sustainability-Lab
HVAC Boilers share heating load with geothermal system
Jul. 16, 2013 By THE FULTON COS. | HPAC Engineering
Serving as both a lab and demonstration space, the SyracuseCoE building incorporates a lot of innovative technology, such as a geothermal system and Fulton's pulse-combustion boilers. The geothermal system provides 40 percent of the center's heating and cooling needs. When the geothermal system requires supplemental energy, two Fulton Pulse hydronic condensing boilers provide additional energy. Together these two systems prove to be a very efficient way to heat and cool the building. Both are viewed as an important part of SyracuseCoE's success and are worth noting.

Free NYSERDA Seminars Will Detail Incentives Available to Improve Energy Efficiency and Control Costs
To make it easier to undertake energy-efficiency projects in multifamily buildings, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is holding several free seminars. The seminars will connect multifamily building owners, property managers, developers and board members of condominium and co-op associations with NYSERDA experts and engineering resources to begin taking advantage of NYSERDA's Multifamily Energy Performance Portfolio (MEPP). There will also be seminars held for contractors, builders, HVAC specialists and non-profit advocacy organizations interested in growing their businesses by becoming a Multifamily Performance Program (MPP) Partner. The seminars will provide an overview of the technical assistance and incentives that are available, along with panel presentations by multifamily building experts who have already helped owners successfully implement energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives at existing buildings and new construction projects.

Manufacturing Technology Acceleration Center (M-TAC) Pilot Projects
NIST invites proposals from eligible applicants to conduct approximately two (2) pilot projects that will inform future NIST investment leading to the development of a network of Manufacturing Technology Acceleration Centers (M-TACs). The emphasis of these pilots will be to demonstrate the conduct of technology transition and commercialization activities with small and mid-sized U.S. manufacturers to foster their readiness to adopt and/or adapt advanced technologies into their manufacturing processes and products. The pilots will specifically focus on addressing the technical and business challenges encountered by small and mid-sized U.S. manufacturers as they attempt to integrate, adopt, transition, and commercialize both existing and emerging product and process technologies into their operations to help them grow and compete within manufacturing supply chains as innovative, value-adding components of our nation's economy.
Deadline: September 23, 2013 Eligibility: Eligible applicants are existing MEP Centers. Applicants are strongly encouraged to form teaming arrangements involving multiple MEP Centers such that manufacturing supply chain needs can be addressed on a local or regional level, and also have a broad geographic reach to facilitate leveraging of resources and access to manufacturers on a national scale. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to adequately demonstrate the leveraging of resources and competencies tied to the industry sectors, supply chains, and technology areas that are relevant to the local regions where the applicant team resides. Funding: Approximately $1,000,000 for approximately two (2) pilot projects. Learn More
