REPORT RELEASED
New U.S. Surgeon General Report

On January 17th, the U.S. Surgeon General released The Health Consequences of Smoking - 50 Years of Progress. This report highlights progress in tobacco control and prevention since the release of the first report on tobacco and health in 1964. The report also contains new evidence on the health impact of smoking and strategies to end the tobacco epidemic.

MAKE TOBACCO HISTORY
Campaign launched

In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the first U.S. Surgeon General Report on Smoking and Health and the release of a new report, leading health organizations have launched the Make Tobacco History campaign.

The health organizations call for government action to address three goals:
  • Reduce smoking rates to less than 10 percent in 10 years;
  • Protect all Americans from secondhand smoke in five years; and
  • Ultimately eliminate the death and disease caused by tobacco use.
