Prescription for Health, 2013, the inaugural joint membership meeting of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance and the South Carolina Tobacco-Free Collaborative took place October 18 and 19 in Columbia. Highlights included a keynote address by Dr. Regina Benjamin, the 18th U.S. Surgeon General. Dr. Benjamin discussed health disparities and the importance of healthy behaviors. The event also featured a display commemorating the upcoming 50th anniversary of the first U.S. Surgeon General's report on smoking. Saturday included two plenary sessions. Additionally several break out sessions were held that covered a variety of topics. Saturday's activities also featured a presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Media Advocacy to Margaret Brackett of Newberry.
