49 and Counting!
In South Carolina, 49 cities, towns, and counties have adopted an ordinance making indoor workplaces, restaurants and bars smoke-free. These ordinances protect 37% of the state's population.

| HEALTHY SOUTH CAROLINA INITIATIVE | |
Creating Healthy Communities
The Healthy South Carolina Initiative (HSCI) is a CDC-funded project focused on tobacco-free living, healthy eating and active living. For more information on HSCI, click on the HSCI logo.
Update on HSCI tobacco-free living strategies:
- 49 of 315 communities have smoke-free workplaces.
- 44 of 81 school districts have tobacco-free campuses.
- 11 of 61 colleges and universities have tobacco-free campuses.
- 1,050 surveys were conducted to assess tobacco use by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender individuals.

Funding Announcement
The Healthy South Carolina Initiative announces the availability of funds to support community implementation efforts that work to eliminate health disparities and achieve health equity to improve the health of South Carolinians. | TRAINING OPPORTUNITY | |
 Tobacco Enforcement Training
The Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services has developed a training aimed at helping law enforcement understand state laws regarding youth tobacco possession and underage tobacco sales and why it is important to enforce these laws. The training also covers current youth tobacco trends, FDA regulations, and current trends in tobacco products. It is approved for 2.75 hours through the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
