AMAZON TO PAY 1.16 BILLION FOR 11-BUILDING

CAMPUS IN SLU

Some earnings to be reinvested into continued SLU redevelopment

Amazon.com has agreed to pay $1.6 billion to buy its 11-building headquarters campus in SLU. The company now leases the buildings from Vulcan Real Estate. "We are truly excited that Amazon is making this long-term commitment to the South Lake Union community," Ada M. Healey, vice president of real estate for Vulcan inc., said in an release. Vulcan plans to reinvest the earnings from the sale into continued real estate investments, including redeveloping the 30 acres of property Vulcan still owns in SLU. This purchase will bring the total number of Seattle's office building sales up to 26, worth $3.5 billion combined.

A NEIGHBORHOOD TREASURE RAISES $34,000
The Center for Wooden Boats

CWB RAINBOW

The Center for Wooden Boats caught this amazing double rainbow photo last week. They are a treasure to our neighborhood, and have been SLU Chamber members since our beginnings. Their annual breakfast earlier this month raised over $34,000, which will help support more kids building toy boats, more families learning to sail together, and more teenagers finding their bearings in their Job Skills Program.

Did you know their livery operates year-round renting sail and rowboats to the public? Don't let the season change keep you from getting out on the water!

SUBSTATION

Seattle City Light met with the SLU Chamber Public Affairs Committee earlier this month to give a briefing on the project and gather feedback from SLU businesses and committee members. The discussion helped identify the environmental topics, substation design alternatives and transmission line options that will be the focus of the upcoming Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The substation will be built on Denny Way near Stewart Street, the location of the former Greyhound facility. It is needed to service the expected electrical demand in SLU and surrounding neighborhoods. The public is being asked to comment by November 7 on the topics to be addressed and the alternatives to be considered for the EIS.
