Thank you to Kelly Phelps, Rachel Zarghami, and  Val Oertel for chairing The Spring Book Fair.  Thank you to all of our parents volunteers for helping to make it such a success.  A very special thank you to Lorraine Keleghan, who has been the book fair treasurer for as long as we can remember, and whose warm and knowing presence we will truly miss.

 
Thank you to Cristina Boudo, Amy O'Kane and parent volunteers for transforming our school into an art gallery and literary salon on Arts and Literature Night. 

Thank you to all who participated in Kids Care Club this month.  We enjoyed a wonderful presentation from Darien Beautification Commission on Water Conservation and how The Long Island Sound has changed over time.  Friday we had our Clothing Drive.  Thanks you for all who donated goods and clothing.  We will donate $250.00 to Charity:Water.org for well water development projects.  Lastly, Saturday we met at Weed Beach and Collected six bags of garbage.  Well Done!

Thank you to the Royle School YGuide Tribes, (Mohawks,  Wampanogs and Yakima) for their cleanup effort at Royle School on Saturday, April 23.

Volunteer Opportunities for Parents of Incoming Sixth Graders

The nominating process for the Middlesex Parent Association 2016-2017 school year has begun.  We are always looking for new volunteers to join the MPA Slate, especially parents with new students to MMS.  The job descriptions are on the MPA website which can be reached through the Parents link on the Middle School website, then the Middlesex Parent Association and then About and the 2016-2017 job descriptions or use the following link:

Darien Soccer Registration for Fall 2016 Soccer will open May 1st.    House (for players 2011, 2010 and 2009 Birth Years) and Club Excel (2008 Birth Years and older) will run from May 1st to June 1st.    For players who would like to try out for our Travel program (2008 Birth Year and older) registration will run from May 1st to May 15th.    See  www.dariensoccer.org for information and to register online.

SUMMER CAMP
The Pink Rhubarb is offering a farm to table summer program for children grades 1-2 & 3-4 at Fodor Farm in Norwalk.  We have 5 weekly sessions Monday through Friday from 9:30-12:30June 27 to July 25. Children will learn gardening, cooking skills, yoga and creativity with programs taught in groups of 10- 12. The program director is Darien resident, Jane Mossa, and our counselors are Darien high school students or graduates. DARIEN YMCA HOSTS FITNESS CHALLENGE FUNDRAISER FOR KIDS & ADULTS
Registration is on now for The 2nd Annual Y Games: Team Charity Challenge, a fitness fundraiser to benefit the Darien Y's Financial Assistance Program to be held on Sunday, June 12th from 8am to 12pm. All community members are invited to form a 4-person team for this fun fitness challenge. The Darien Nature Center still has some spaces in our weekly summer camp.
Summer is the time to explore, learn and grow.  Our program encourages campers to build friendships and develop an appreciation for nature and science. Each week a different nature inspired theme reflects our commitment to the natural world around us. Activities include:  nature hikes, games, stories, songs, water day, experiments and visits to our zoo room animals. Camp begins the week of June 20th and goes through the week of July 25th. Camp for ages 3-7 will run from 9 am - 1 pm every day. It's time to polish up your act!  "Darien's Got Talent" returns June 25, 2016. 
Registration for auditions begins April 11th thru May 9th.  Auditions take place May 21st & 22nd.
Contestants can showcase their talents, shine on stage AND win cash prizes.  Ages 10 and over can enter as an individual or as part of a group to sing, dance, act, play an instrument, do magic or perform just about any other talent. A cappella groups, garage bands and dance ensembles are welcome!! For more information and to register to audition, please visit darienarts.org.

  3. limit submission to approximately 100 words
  4. Include contact name/phone/email
  5. Submissions must be age-appropriate and Darien school and/or community relevant. We will not include advertisements for businesses. Only community events that are child-oriented and for charitable purposes (not-for-profit) or are school related will be considered for inclusion in the Community section of the Blast. "Community News" information/events will run for a maximum of two consecutive editions.  Please time you submissions accordingly.
