Where did Spring go?
Spring Hyacinths

I don't know about you, but Spring was just a blip around here!  It came long enough for me to see our first blossoms of hyacinths, daffodils and tulips, but then the weather turned so fast this past week, we are already pulling out our summer clothes and flip-flops!  I'm so glad we were able to snap a few photos of our first spring blooms - aren't they so vibrant?  It was so sweet to come home (after the final process in our moving venture) to see the first fruits of what we had planted last fall.

Once we arrived home, and the weather permitted us to begin the full swing of hammers on nails, construction began again on our office cabin.  Remember last year, when we decided to move a little A-Frame structure to have as our office space?  Well, since that time, that little A-Frame turned into a little bit larger gambrel style office cabin.  We decided we needed more space for Carm's workbench and Featherweight service area, and for my fabric, of course!  The office is still in it's finishing stages, but at least you can see and enjoy the process with us.

I already have a somewhat permanent sewing space as well and have been able to stretch my wings and sew a few projects again.  I used the Singer Zipper Foot to insert a Zipper and a ZigZag Attachment to applique' and sew this little Monkey Coin Purse.

Isn't he cute!  Our friends over at Straight Stitch Society designed this darling little pattern.  SweetPea is already adding many animal requests to the sewing queue.

We hope you are enjoying these lovely late spring days and the beginnings of summer weather.

Don't forget to sneak a little bit of sewing time in for your creative relaxation!  If you need anything for your Featherweight or have any questions, we are here to assist you.  Don't hesitate to e-mail us anytime!

Your Stitchery Friend,
April

P.S.  I almost forgot!  Have you ever sewn those little stuffed toys?  You know, the ones from vintage patterns?  Well, I made a Mama & Baby Horse this month and the pattern called for 1/4" seams... Can you guess, which attachment made those seams sew much easier?  Well, if you guessed that the 1/4" Foot was my go-to attachment, you would have guessed correctly because it worked perfectly!  I loved the Open-Toe 1/4" because I could see the edge as well as my stitching alignment - not only on the straight runs, but also around the curves.

Vintage Singer Buttonholer Attachment
Did you know that in 1938 the original Singer Buttonholer was the most expensive Attachment Fashion Aid?  Yes, it was!  I'm sure you can imagine the delight amongst seamstresses to have the mechanics of making a buttonhole with their sewing machine versus the painstaking challenge of sewing one secure enough by hand.

Beautiful, perfect and easy! 'Sew' easy in fact, it's practically hands-free! Believe me, this buttonholer is still preferred by long-time sew-ers, even over the fancy-schmancy, expensive machines with built-in buttonhole features. It still amazes me how the technology of yesterday still holds true 60 years later.
