All the things that changed

This week holiday break transitioning over from new years has been a busy one for those of us who have been working during the break.  A lot has and will be changing in TYC over the next few months.  We are looking at solving a lot of problems, and improving in a a lot of places.

We're even looking at our potential to expand in the coming months and it is very posiive outlook from here!

Additionally we are starting up the pipeline again and we want to respond to the travesty that has been brought on in response to Leeelah Alcorne's death so our bloggers will have this as their first topic.  WE will also be providing the trans* lifeline that recently came out as a resource for all members which is incredibly important!

All the Things that have changed
Our Top 5 New Years Promises to You
Our Top 5 New Years Promises to You
TYC's schedule and the things we're changing
Before we get started with the topic we wanted to update you on all of the changes we are brining to TYC in the upcoming months.

Each change is being brought on by a new years resolution put forward by samantha and the board of directors and this will be our main focus throughout the next year!  first watch the video to get a better idea of what is going on.

WE are...
  1. Getting a new video intro!

Click here to view the video!  audio will be around shortly.  if you have suggestions on improving it in the next few days please let me know by commenting on Facebook about it.
  2. Still doing the #GivingTuesday dedications
We failed this December because we lost our video editors so we are making this up to our community by re, providing those dedications for January - February.  But we also need to make sure it doesn't happen again.  so we're creating new positions, more below.

  3. Moving forward with the support group program
The support group program was stalled because of the holidays and the #givingtuesday fiasco but we are moving forward!  we will continue to develop this with our team of therapists and volunteers.  If you want to help please state your interest by emailing me through transyouthchannel@gmail.com.

  4. Adding some new job positions
Because of the issue with #givingtuesday we felt it necessary to start looking at some root job positions to fill that will take the stress off several of the departments.  so we are changing structures by adding new higher management positions:
           -  CFO and CTO positions to handle more fires.
           -  A Volunteer coordinator position responsible for finding and training volunteers.
           -  More leadership positions to share the workload on department leaders.
           -  Grant writing and researching positions which will be internships
           -  Video editing internships

  5. Bettering our relationship with partners          Our partnership with Creative Insights has proved very fruitful in regards to connecting our viewers with an entire therapists database so we can suggest therapists to people,  and we are using amazing partnership tools like google maps to build a database of friendly therapists all around the country.

We are looking to expand this program in to the first rendition of the TransMap.org project,  putting all of the resources we can on one map for the whole LGBT+ community.  To do this though, we are hoping to role it out as a partnership program and start a whole new team for it.   We hope that all of our partnerships can grow as it has with creative insights so we will be paying special attention to what more we can do for them.

  6. Building new infrastructure and tools
As a part of our resolution we said we would make it easier for our viewers to stay in contact with us so we will be introducing some new tools for viewers  such as a private survey for posting on transyouthchannel's main pages.  these will be monitored by the social media team, and pushed out to the various social platforms they are on!

Additionally we will include new structure to our social media team that will allow you to schedule and more easily stay up to date with the social media platforms later on this year.

For our blogging team we will be looking to have a way of improving your videos run by the QA team in that they will have a "digest" of their own to provide in the weekly emails.  this will be their "one point of improvement" they provide each week for our bloggers to pay attention to as a whole.

  7. Improving and modifying our existing ones
Lastly, if you have taken a gander at the internal website lately we have reduced a fair amount of it.  Internally we have removed communications from the internal site since they have not been used since we added them.  Our internal site will be getting a revamp as soon as we can so that we can better track what each department is doing and what their progress is.  This will require some advanced coding capabilities but we are sure that this will make TYC an even more well oiled machine!

Our external site will also be revamped with the development of more complex javascript code to allow our viewers easier access to skimming through our videos,  finding resources, and interacting with our partnership organizations.

An additional improvement will be speeding up the pipeline.  We have had no need throughout the year for our "in queue" buffer week that we had so we are removing it, allowing our bloggers to react to news more quickly.  we're also splitting up the research and outreach team (although they will still have the same coordinating leader) so that research can be the only first part of the pipeline.

Outreach will then expand in to a new department and contact point for our partner organizations throughout their entire time with us.

Powerful media coverage from social media and traditional has occured in response to leelah alcorn
Now on to our topic!
Leelah Alcorn Shook the Community

Almost all transgender and civil rights organizations as well as the mass media have been paying attention to the suicide of a young girl whose parents locked her away from her friends and community,  forced her to go to correction therapies, and all of this ended in a suicide letter via Tumblr, tugging hard at the hearts of transgender youth and their parents.

It has forced the world to look at suicide not only of trans* people but of all youth in a whole new light.  And Trans* Youth Channel wants to address this in a serious and profound manner so that we can keep it from happening again.

Please read through the links and learn about her,  then create videos that are introspective,  emotional, and strong.  We also recognize this is a hot topic so please make sure you are respectful and moderate rather then extreme in your opinion, and think through this video.  its important, so no cutting corners this week.

conversation taboos:
no flaming the religion of the parents.  just because there are christian extremists does not mean we maim the religion as a whole.  Their actions however are theirs so we won't restrict your statements toward the family specifically.

while a small amount of expletives are okay,  no extreme or high quantity expletives are allowed and you CANNOT point them at any one person, organization, or entity unless its Fckh8te.com which enjoys this.

We will also be featuring Trans Lifeline as a resource but they are not established partners with us so no pointing to logos as we won't have them!
