Will the Government Shutdown affect Contractors?

How the shutdown will affect government contractors is a complicated and uncertain issue.  If the shutdown lasts only a few days, you may not be affected at all.  In the event of a longer shutdown, it depends upon the nature of your contract.  Click here to read an article on this topic posted on FCW.com earlier this week.

Learn the status of government services during the shutdown. For additional updates and insights on the impacts of the shutdown, the Federal Times is a good resource, including this interesting Federal Times article on the DoD contract award process through the shutdown.

Washington PTAC Counselors are available to help you research and understand operations within agencies you are currently doing business with.

Learn how to obtain a GSA Multiple Award Schedule Contract

Free classes in October will teach businesses the basics and provide follow up support.

Federal buyers purchase $50 billion annually through the U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) Multiple Award Schedule Program. GSA offers over 20 million supplies and services through this procurement vehicle, with over 19,000 contracts, 80% of which are with small businesses.

Washington PTAC is hosting four upcoming no-cost GSA 101 workshops in October throughout the state to help local businesses grow by contracting with the United States General Services Administration.  These free workshops, intended for established businesses, will provide attendees with information and tips on the basics of pursuing GSA MAS (Multiple Award Schedule) contracts. Attendees will learn:

  • What evaluation criteria must be met to be considered for a contract award
  • How to navigate through the Schedule's eLibrary
  • The necessary paperwork involved in submitting an acceptable offer for consideration of award

Workshop participants will receive no-cost follow-up assistance from the Washington PTAC team if they decide to pursue a GSA MAS contract.
