Required Employee Posters Revised Effective August 1, 2016
|
The Department of Labor (DOL) has revised two federal labor law postings required for all workplaces in the United States. The changes to both posters are considered mandatory effective August 1, 2016.
Federal Minimum Wage Poster: Mandatory changes were made to the poster to reflect updated enforcement rules under the Fair Labor Standards Act (the Federal minimum wage rate did not change). Updates include: new information discussing the consequences of incorrectly classifying workers as independent contractors; new information relating to the rights of nursing mothers; updated information regarding enforcement by the DOL; and revised information relating to tip credits. Click here for revised Federal Minimum Wage poster.
Federal Employee Polygraph Protection Act Poster: The DOL removed the civil penalty limit from the poster, changed the toll-free phone number, and added a TTY phone number. Click here for the revised EPPA poster.

Job Fair Held in Stockton Last Week
|
A successful job fair was held last week at our Training Center in Stockton. This year our NECA/IBEW team targeted state certified electricians. The process included searching the state certified electrician list by zip code, visiting local job sites, using radio and YouTube advertising, plus individual mailings to likely candidates. The result was over 35 in attendance, with approximately 14 certified electricians or trainee's identified. Contractors represented included Bockmon & Woody, Collins Electric, Pacific Metro Electric and Quality Sound. Special thanks to the IBEW for their attempts to ensure a highly skilled and trained workforce for our NECA contractors.

Fall General Member Meeting
Tuesday, September 13th
|
The end of summer is quickly approaching, which means it's time for the Northern California Chapter's Annual Fall General Member Meeting on Tuesday, September 13th. We will be returning to the Palm Event Center in Pleasanton, 1184 Vineyard Ave. The evening's reception will begin at 6PM with hosted hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Along with networking and our popular raffle prize drawing, we will also recognize our Chapter contractors and their team members with Project Excellence Awards. The NECA/IBEW Joint Safety Committee will present the Marv Jensen Safety Award designed to recognize excellence in safety demonstrated by NECA contractors and IBEW electricians. We are pleased that Marco Giamberardino, NECA National's Executive Director of Government Affairs, will join us to shed light on what he and his staff do daily to promote the union electrical industry. Marco attended the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and will shed light on what has been a very interesting political climate. We hope to see many of you there. Please RSVP your attendance using the attached form. If you have any questions, please contact Juanita Mitchell at the Chapter office.
