OSHA Interpretation Expands Recordable Injury Definition
New federal guidance expands the type of medical care triggering the mandate for employers to record injuries in OSHA logs. The rule interpretation letter was published online August 1st by the Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The letter states that if an employee decides without first consulting a medical professional to treat wrist pain with a rigid brace, using the brace elevates the injury to becoming a recordable injury even if a doctor later says the brace isn't necessary.

NorCal NECA Visits Assembly Member Bill Quirk
On Friday, August 12th, Greg Armstrong and Scot VanBuskirk met with Assembly Member Bill Quirk and his assistant Deborah Cox, who also happens to be a San Leandro City Council Member. The main topic of discussion during the meeting was Change Order Reform.  For the past three years, NECA has pushed for legislation that would create agency accountability for the prompt and fair payment of extra work performed by contractors.  This year, our efforts have been introduced in the form of AB-626. Last year, Assembly Member Quirk voted for AB-1347 and he stated that he would plan to vote for AB-626 this week when the Assembly Floor will vote on the bill.  We would like to thank Assembly Member Quirk for his support of this legislation!

2016 Profile of Electrical Contractor Released
Electrical Contractor Magazine has released its biennial Profile of the Electrical Contractor study, which can be viewed by clicking here.

More than 4,200 contractors - NECA members and non-members - responded to the magazine's questionnaire earlier this year describing work done in 2015. These responses paint a portrait of an industry that's both continuing to mend since the financial meltdown eight years ago and expanding into new business areas.

Job Fairs Scheduled in Stockton & San Leandro
August 16th and August 30th
Job fairs provide an opportunity for non-union electricians and those interested in a career in the industry to speak with Organizers in a relaxed atmosphere, and meet directly with employers. Employers can gauge an individual's skill level and determine if they would be a good fit for their company. Two job fairs will be held in August - one on August 16th at the Training Center in Stockton, and another on August 30th at the ZNE Center in San Leandro. See attached for details on how you can participate. Questions? Please contact Jason Gumataotao at Local 595, or Darlene Besst at the Chapter office.

Fall General Member Meeting
Tuesday, September 13th
Invitations have been emailed for the Northern California Chapter's Fall General Member Meeting coming soon on Tuesday, September 13th. This year's event will be held at the Palm Event Center in Pleasanton, 1184 Vineyard Avenue. The evening's reception will begin at 6:00 PM with hosted hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Along with networking and our popular raffle prize drawing, we will also recognize our Chapter contractors and their team members with Project Excellence Awards. The NECA/IBEW Joint Safety Committee will present the Marv Jensen Safety Award designed to recognize excellence in safety demonstrated by NECA contractors and IBEW electricians. We are pleased that Marco Giamberardino, NECA National's Executive Director of Government Affairs, will join us to discuss what he and his staff do daily to promote the union electrical industry. Marco attended the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and will shed light on what has been a very interesting political climate.

We hope that you will join us for a fun evening of networking, dinner, and celebration. If you have questions, please contact Juanita Mitchell at the Chapter office.
