Job Fairs Scheduled in Stockton & San Leandro

August 16th and August 30th
Job fairs provide an opportunity for non-union electricians and those interested in a career in the industry to speak with Organizers in a relaxed atmosphere, and meet directly with employers. Employers can gauge an individual's skill level and determine if they would be a good fit for their company. Two job fairs will be held in August - one on August 16th at the Training Center in Stockton, and another on August 30th at the ZNE Center in San Leandro. See attached for details on how you can participate. Questions? Please contact Jason Gumataotao at Local 595, or Darlene Besst at the Chapter office.

Fall General Member Meeting
Tuesday, September 13th
Invitations have been emailed for the Northern California Chapter's Fall General Member Meeting coming soon on Tuesday, September 13th. This year's event will be held at the Palm Event Center in Pleasanton, 1184 Vineyard Avenue. The evening's reception will begin at 6:00 PM with hosted hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Along with networking and our popular raffle prize drawing, we will also recognize our Chapter contractors and their team members with Project Excellence Awards. The NECA/IBEW Joint Safety Committee will present the Marv Jensen Safety Award designed to recognize excellence in safety demonstrated by NECA contractors and IBEW electricians. We are pleased that Marco Giamberardino, NECA National's Executive Director of Government Affairs, will join us to discuss what he and his staff do daily to promote the union electrical industry. Marco attended the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and will shed light on what has been a very interesting political climate.

We hope that you will join us for a fun evening of networking, dinner, and celebration. If you have questions, please contact Juanita Mitchell at the Chapter office.

ELECTRI Council Meeting Held in Napa Last Week
ELECTRI International Chair Greg Long presided over the July Meeting of the ELECTRI Council, held last week in the Napa Valley. ELECTRI International works to help electrical contractors meet today's demands and tomorrow's challenges by funding, conducting, coordinating and transforming research results into meaningful, useful educational and consulting programs. The purpose of the July meeting is to review new proposals and vote on new research ideas, as well as receive updates on past projects as they continue their research efforts.

After presentations by all project candidates, the Council voted to fund two new projects: Best Practices for Early Adoption of Productivity Improvement Programs and Flexible Overhead: Agile Strategies That Increase Electrical Contractor Profitability. The results will be delivered within the next year.

The Council also received updates on three current research projects. Richard Barnes reported on Collective Bargaining and Collective Business Development, a variation of the NECA/IBEW Partnering Sessions he facilitates. Attendees listened to reports on the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) and BIM Related Costs Due to Change Orders.

John Modica and Jody Brahmst attended the conference on behalf of the Alameda ECT, Greg Armstrong represented the Chapter. Gene Gini, Brian Gini and Kevin Gini with Collins Electrical Co. attended and became the newest members of ELECTRI. Chair Long talked about the new ELECTRI mobile app giving users instant access to all previous ELECTRI studies and reports. Greg stated that the new app will be unveiled at the NECA Convention in Boston this Fall. He also thanked Collins Electrical Co. for seeing the value in ELECTRI International and becoming the newest member. Dozens of research reports can be viewed on the ELECTRI International website (www.electri.org). Click the "Research" tab near the top of the page and then "Research Reports" to view reports relevant to your business!

Golf Proceeds Distributed to Three of Our Five Charities
On Thursday, July 14th, San Joaquin Hospice held its Annual Recognition, where individuals and organizations are recognized for their support. The Northern California Chapter was honored to receive the Hospice "Lean on Me Award." Lew Frain, Con J. Franke Electric, along with Chapter staff Darlene Besst and Pete Halver were present to receive the award. Once again, we were pleased to present a portion of our golf proceeds to Hospice. We are happy to report that this year our contribution was up from $5,000 in previous years, to $7,500 this year.

Also receiving $7,500 this year, was our Modesto Division charity Modesto Gospel Mission. Modesto Gospel Mission provides nutritious meals, warm beds and a place of safety for thousands of poor and homeless men, women and children. The Mission receives no government funding and depends completely on the gifts of generous donors. We are honored to be included in this category.

For the 15th consecutive year, the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation received a portion of our golf proceeds, this year totaling $12,500.

It is heart-warming to know that each of these very deserving charities will benefit greatly from the donations. The Chapter wishes to express a very special thank you to all of our generous golf tournament participants.
