NorCal NECA's 14th Annual Golf Classic Held Last Week
The NorCal NECA 14th Annual Golf Classic took place at Ruby Hill in Pleasanton on Monday, May 23rd under bright sunny skies. The tournament was well attended by several of our valued industry partners and contractor members who attended and/or sponsored the event. The weather cooperated and everyone enjoyed golf and networking together before and after play. Each year we donate proceeds from the tournament to five charities that have been hand-picked for our Chapter. These charities are: Make-A-Wish Foundation Greater Bay Area, Aldea Children and Family Services in Napa, Attitudinal Healing Connection in Oakland, Modesto Gospel Mission in Modesto, and Hospice of San Joaquin in Stockton. We extend our deep appreciation to all of our players and sponsors who make it possible for us to donate proceeds to these five very deserving charities. Congratulations to all our winners and especially Barry Frain, Pat Buckley, Jim Brink and Pat Nash representing Con J. Franke Electric Inc. and Okonite Company, whose team name will be etched on the perpetual trophy this year. We hope that you will consider joining us in May 2017 for our 15th Annual Golf Classic! W. Creighton Schwan Scholarship Presented
The NorCal NECA Codes & Standards Committee is pleased to announce that the $1,000 W. Creighton Schwan Scholarship was awarded to Rachel Hoobing, a Laney College student majoring in electrical with a 4.0 GPA. Rachel is currently working for Nijssan Electric installing electric vehicle charging stations. She is expecting to graduate from Laney College later this year, at which time she plans to continue her electrical career at the Alameda County JATC Apprentice program. Pictured left to right is EBUCC Chair Joel Garcia, City of Oakland Chief Building Inspector, Rachel Hoobing, and Codes & Standards Chair, Greg Carey from Gills Electric Co., Inc. W. Creighton Schwan dedicated his life to the electrical industry. Starting over 60 years ago as an electrician for the Army Air Corp, Creighton settled into the San Francisco Bay Area and contributed to the area as an electrician, an electrical contractor, and eventually an electrical inspector. Following his retirement from NEMA in 1976, Creighton Schwan embarked on a new career as an independent code consultant and author. He was a 50-year member of IAEI and a 65-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. The W. Creighton Schwan Scholarship Award was established in 2007 by the Northern California Chapter, NECA in memory of the late W. Creighton Schwan who was a regular and faithful participant/consultant at our monthly EBUCC meetings. The Schwan family donated funds to ensure continuance of the scholarship so that Creighton's legacy may be honored, and his great contributions remembered and emulated.
