Join a Committee
Help Us By Adding Your Skills & Enthusiasm
NECA is here to serve you, but we could use your help too. As we are off and running in this new year, consider being part of one of these dynamic committees. We are currently seeking representatives from each of our divisions.

The Codes & Standards Committee and the East Bay Uniform Code Committee is intended to advance the cause of electrical safety and help improve the quality of electrical construction. Both committees are dedicated to providing a monthly forum where contractors, IBEW members, and electrical inspectors are exposed to current code practices, education, news and events. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month, starting with the Codes & Standards Committee at 5PM, followed by the East Bay Uniform Code Committee at 6PM. Dinner is included.

Our Member Services Committee is comprised of individuals committed to discuss and plan various member events and activities, as well as providing relevant education and training. Currently, the committee meets quarterly, on a Thursday, at noon. Lunch is included.

The Joint Safety Committee recommends safe work rules as established by OSHA, and meets the last Wednesday of each month at 4:30PM at the Chapter Office. Dinner is included.

We typically break from meetings during June through August, and December. If you have any interest in serving on the above committees, please contact Juanita Mitchell.

We encourage you to contact your Division Chair to inquire about other opportunities to serve. For Alameda County, Brad Gill (510) 451-2929; Stockton, Lew Frain (209) 462-0717; Modesto, Brian Gini (209) 323-3636; Sound & Communications, Ron Kunkel (510) 795-9999; and Solano/Napa Counties, Greg Long (707) 252-3512.

Federal Tax Credits for EV Charging & Infrastructure
In December 2015, President Obama signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016 (H.R. 2029). Division Q, the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (PATH Act), retroactively extended the tax credit for EV charging infrastructure for 2015 and going forward for 2016. Read more here.

There are several PATH Act provisions with potential implications, but the key provisions related to EV charging are:
  • Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit: Section 182 extends the tax credit for alternative fuel infrastructure through December 31, 2016. Fueling equipment and related infrastructure for electricity are eligible for a tax credit of 30%, up to $30,000.
  • Retroactive for EV Charging Infrastructure placed in service in 2015: This means if you installed EV charging in 2015, you can take advantage of this credit for your investment.
