Greetings!
Happy Monday! Take a look at this Monday Morning News and don't miss out on the Future Forecast Seminar or the Prompt Pay Workshop in January.
Warm Holiday wishes from all of us at NECA!
"The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective."

Farewell and Thank You to Christine Navarro
|
Christine Navarro, the cheerful voice when you call the Chapter office and the person behind all things "artsy" and creative in our office, has accepted a position with an outside firm as its Marketing Specialist. On December 30th, Christine will leave us after seven years of dedicated service. We are all very sorry to see her go, and wish her a fond farewell and the very best as she embarks on this new chapter in her life.

California's Economic Outlook
Better Prepared for Economic Downturn
|
The State of California is expected to see billions in surplus revenues in 2016-2017, according to a recent report released by the Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO).
"California's state budget is better prepared for an economic downturn than it has been at any point in decades. Under the main economic scenario in this year's LAO Fiscal Outlook, 2016-17 would end with reserves of $11.5 billion, assuming the state makes no new budget commitments through next year," states the report released in early December.
The report goes on to say that if the economy continues to grow through 2019-20, annual operating surpluses and larger reserves could materialize, creating an opportunity for either spending increases or tax reductions. However, the LAO also warns that an economic or stock market downturn could occur during the outlook period causing budget deficits to re-emerge.
District 12 Assembly member, Kristin Olsen (San Joaquin & Stanislaus Counties), released a response to the report advocating for clear spending priorities and fiscal responsibility.

DIR Reminds Public Works Contractors To Renew Registration Before January 1st
Avoid Hefty Penalty
|
The DIR announced that a mandatory renewal deadline is approaching for contractors who bid or work on public works projects in California. Contractors whose public works contractor registration expired June 30, 2015, and have ongoing public works projects or plan to bid on new ones, must pay the $300 renewal fee before January 1, 2016, or face an additional $2,000 late penalty after that date.
As a result of Senate Bill 854, all contractors who bid or work on public works projects in California have been required to register with the DIR since April 1, 2015. If you believe that your public works registration with the DIR is still active, check the active contractor registration search tool to locate and confirm your registration. If your registration does not appear, it may have been expired or you were not registered. For more information, visit the DIR's Frequently Asked Questions page. If you were registered last year and have not bid or worked on any public works projects on or after July 1, 2015, you can renew for this fiscal year without incurring a penalty. For more information, visit the DIR Public Works page.
