NECA/IBEW Partnering Session A Success!
Follow Up Sessions Planned
|
On Thursday and Friday, July 30 and 31, NorCal NECA contractors and staff, together with IBEW Local Union 595 leadership came together to participate in a Joint Partnering Session. The session was extremely productive, as both management and labor learned more about each other's counterparts, and more importantly, came away with several plans to implement positive change.
On Thursday, the partnering session began with a workshop on how to effectively communicate. This helped foster communication between management and labor, and began the process of working together as a joint group. This was followed up by three workgroup sessions equally attended by labor and management. The groups focused on identifying strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities and threats within NorCal NECA and the IBEW.
The top six issues identified were distributed within the three committees and these committees brainstormed the issues. The issues included: 1) Improving market share; 2) Improving leadership and safety; 3) Issues regarding productivity and competitiveness; 4) Issues regarding manpower, portability, and the aging workforce; 5) Adapting to changes and new technologies; and 6) Improving our image and political influence. Each committee created a specific action plan for their topic and will meet during the coming months to execute these plans.
The discussions held during the seminar helped both management and labor express their thoughts and point of views in much more than the "two-word sound bites" typically exchanged. The positive interaction between management and labor encouraged a flow of information, which enhanced a mutual understanding and promoted constructive discussion of avenues for mutual success.

The law requires employers to provide employees with at least three days (24 hours) of paid sick leave per year.
