NorCal NECA & IBEW 595 Partnering Session
Friday, July 30-31st
NorCal NECA and IBEW Local 595 have scheduled a Partnering Session. NECA and IBEW leaders will work through a step-by-step process of identifying the challenges confronting the local industry, developing methods of meeting these challenges, and taking advantage of opportunities for the future. The session is funded by the National LMCC and facilitated by Richard Barnes. We are looking to get good representation from our NECA Contractors for these sessions, as we will be working together to direct the future of the NECA/IBEW Partnership in our areas. If you would like to attend this partnering session, or would like additional information, please contact Scot VanBuskirk.

Date:  Thursday - Friday, July 30 -31, 2015

Time:  8AM - 5PM each day

Location:  ZNE Center, San Leandro

Sick Leave Requirements By Jurisdiction
Assembly Bill 1522
California Assembly Bill 1522, effective July 1, 2015, requires nearly all California employers provide a minimum of three paid sick days to their workers each year. The construction industry was, however, able to secure amendments that provide construction employers with some relief of the new law. Those amendments state that: 1) employers in the construction industry covered by a valid CBA entered into before January 1, 2015, are not covered by the new law; and 2) employers in the construction industry covered by a valid CBA entered into after January 1, 2015, are not covered by the new law if the CBA expressly waives the requirements of the new law in clear and unambiguous terms.

Please see attached summary of the Local IBEW Jurisdictions showing which jurisdictions the new Sick Leave Law is waived, and which jurisdictions Sick Leave must be paid. Please contact the Chapter Office with any questions.

NECA Convention, October 3-6th
Registration Open

Registration is open for the NECA 2015 show at the LEED-Gold-certified Moscone Center in San Francisco.  Plan to attend the show and take advantage of the opportunities available in pre-convention workshops, management seminars, general sessions and ceremonies. The tradeshow floor is a virtual classroom itself where you can investigate technological advances and discover industry partners eager to help you find time saving solutions.

The Chapter's room block is at the Marriott Marquis San Francisco located near the Convention Center in the SOMA District. For detailed convention information, and to plan your itinerary, visit the NECA Convention website.

To attend, just review and complete the attached NorCal NECA chapter registration and housing form and email before Early Bird rates expire on August 13, 2015. For those unable to register for the full convention, use the attached coupon below to register. This free entry will give you access to the tradeshow floor all three days, technical workshops and Showstopper Showcase and is a great experience for your employees or industry partners. Combine this entry with a pre-convention workshop, for a great learning experience at a modest fee.

For any additional questions or information, please contact Julie Russell.

Public Works Contractor Registration
Annual Renewal

SB 854 was proposed and adopted in connection with the 2014-15 state budget, and it provided that all public works contractor registrations would be for the same time period - July 1, through June 30 fiscal year.  Registrations under SB 854 began on July 1, 2014. However, because this was a new legal requirement that impacted tens of thousands of contractors, registration did not become mandatory as a condition for bidding or working on a new public works project until the spring of 2015. Registration renewals and new registrations for the next fiscal year will run from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016.

Contractors who are currently registered are now able to renew for the next fiscal year (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016). Contractors who need to register for the first time to bid or work on a public works project prior to July 1, should first register and pay a $300 fee for the balance of the current fiscal year (through June 30, 2015), and then, after confirming that they are registered, return to the registration site to renew for the following year. Visit the DIR website for additional information.

Studies reveal that negotiation is one of the top three skills in life and on the job. Great negotiators become key contributors to any company or organization. Great negotiators know exactly what they want and exactly how to get it. Their communication during negotiations is crisp, clear and concise. When difficulties arise during negotiations, they have the ability to make the necessary adjustments to achieve winning solutions.
